Gazcon leads Westies
Senior scores 3 in victory over Prep

After a season-opening loss against Guilford in which Rafael Gazcon scored the lone goal, the West Haven boys soccer team returned to action Thursday evening with a home contest against Fairfield Prep.

Behind three goals from Gazcon and eight saves from Yahzeel Beyley, West Haven picked up its first win of the season with a 3-2 decision at Ken Strong Stadium .
Gazcon gave West Haven a 2-0 first half lead, then gave the Westies insurance when he scored off an assist from Sebastian Navarro with 25 minutes left in regulation.
Gazcon broke a scoreless tie when he scored an unassisted goal off a free kick at the 26:02 mark of the first half. Just 10:27 later, Gazcon was at it again when he scored off an assist from sophomore Keifer Tandazo.
After the Jesuits got with 2-1, Gazcon gave the Westies some breathing room when he scored off an assist from Navarro with 24:38 remaining.  

The Jesuits held a 14-8 shot advantage in the contest.

Beyley solid in scoreless contest with Cross

- Looking to get over the .500 mark early in the season, the West Haven boys soccer team found itself in a battle with Wilbur Cross Saturday evening. That battle proved defensive as neither team could find the back of the goal on a 0-0 draw at Ken Strong Stadium.

Yahzeel Beyley played a key part in the victory for the Westies as he made five saves in goal. The Governors held an 11-5 shot advantage in the contest for the shutout. Dustin Gibbon made three saves for Wilbur Cross.


Westies fall to Cheshire
Rams score four unanswered in 4-1 win

 - The West Haven boys soccer team fell to 1-2-1 with a 4-1 loss at Cheshire Friday evening. The Westies got on the scoreboard first, but the Rams finished with four unanswered goals in the victory.
Cheshire held a 19-10 shot advantage in the contest with West Haven’s Yahzeel Beyley making 12 saves in the loss.
Emmanuell Gordon gave West Haven a 1-0 lead when he scored off an assist from Collin Charron 3 minutes, 52 seconds into the game.
That was all the scoring for the Westies as Cheshire evened the contest 7:04 later, then took the lead for good 3:57 into the second half.

Gazcon PK difference in 2-1 victory

 - The West Haven boys soccer team improved to 2-2-1 with a 2-1 victory over Career/Hillhouse Saturday afternoon at Ken Strong Stadium in West Haven.
The Westies controlled play with a 14-4 shot advantage, and Yahzeel Beyley made three saves in the win.
Trailing 1-0 to start the second half, Jared Yarwaye swung the momentum back in West Haven’s favor when he scored off an assist from Collin Charron 2:04 into the second half.

The game remained even at one until the final five minutes when Rafael Gazcon scored off a penalty kick with 4:15 remaining for the 2-1 win.

Tigers defeat West Haven 1-0

 - The West Haven boys soccer team fell to 2-3-1 with a 1-0 loss at Hand-Madison Tuesday evening. West Haven was outshot 19-7 in the contest, but goalkeeper Yahzeel Beyley made five saves to keep the game close.

Hand’s lone goal came at 9:52 from Matt Campari. Charlie Wira made three saves in the shutout for Hand.

Masoperh scores in second half for WH

- The West Haven boys soccer team snapped its three-game losing streak with a 1-1 draw with Guilford Friday evening at Ken Strong Stadium in West Haven.
The Westies moved to 2-5-2 with the draw and their winless streak is at four games.
Guilford took a 1-0 lead in the final minute of the first half, before the Westies rallied in the second half to get the equalizer.
Just 10 minutes, 25 seconds into the second half, senior Sebastian Navarro set up sophomore Ethan Masoperh, who scored the tying goal.  The Westies had a 13-8 shot advantage in the contest, but managed just the goal by Masoperh.

Sophomore Yahzeel Beyley made five saves in the tie.  


Cross blanks Westies
WH falls to 2-6-2 on year

 - The West Haven boys soccer team saw its winless streak reach five games with a 1-0 loss at Wilbur Cross Tuesday evening. With the defeat, West Haven fell to 2-6-2 on the year.
West Haven played well defensively in the contest, allowing just the one goal and 10 Cross shots. Yahzeel Beyley made seven saves, but West Haven could not connect offensively.
After a scoreless first half, Cross took a 1-0 lead three minutes into the second half. The deficit proved to be too much for a West Haven team which has scored just twice in the last five games.

Cross goalkeeper Dusty Gibbon was forced to make just three saves in the win for the Governors.


Cheshire cruises past Westies
WH falls 6-1

 - The West Haven boys soccer fell to 2-7-3 with a 6-1 loss against Cheshire Monday evening at Ken Strong Stadium. The loss kept the Westies winless in their last seven games at 0-5-2.
Cheshire got off to a quick start in the game and never looked back, leading 3-0 at the half and 4-0 less than two minutes into the second half.
Robert Foley got the Westies on the board when he scored with 19:25 left off an assist from Rafael Gazcon.
West Haven never got closer as Cheshire added a pair of goals in the final 12 minutes to seal the victory. The Rams had six different scorers in the contest.
Yahzeel Beyley made 10 saves in the loss for the Westies.
The loss followed a scoreless draw Friday evening against Shelton where the Westies held a 9-4 shot advantage, but could not find the back of the net.

Beyley made three saves in the draw. 


Westies top Career/Hillhouse
Late goal secures win

- The West Haven boys soccer got back in the win column with a 2-1 victory over Career/Hillhouse in New Haven Wednesday afternoon. With the victory, West Haven improved to 3-7-3 on the year.
The Westies never trailed in the game, taking a 1-0 lead 10:15 into the contest when Sebastian Navarro scored off an assist from Rafael Gazcon.
Career/Hillhouse scored off a penalty kick at the 26:34 mark to even the game, before the Westies used a late tally to secure the victory.
Ethan Masoperh scored an unassisted goal with 5:37 remaining to give West Haven a 2-1 lead, and goalkeeper Abrahan Mero made one save to preserve the win.

West Haven had a 30-4 shot advantage in the contest.

WH ties Shelton in finale

 - West Haven closed the regular season with a 3-9-4 record as the Westies fell at Notre Dame 2-1 and play to a scoreless draw against Shelton at home. Rafael Gazcon scored the lone West Haven goal in the loss to the Green Knights.
