Xavier tops WH 6-1

  - The West Haven boys tennis team got back on the winning side with a 4-3 victory over Shelton Thursday afternoon at West Haven High. With the victory, West Haven improved to 8-3 on the year.
In singles action, top-seeded Miguel Torres defeated Chase Graber 6-3, 6-3, second-seeded Brandon Sihaphong topped Jack Parkes 6-1, 7-6, and third-seeded Eshwar Balakumar defeated Adam Klein 6-3, 6-4.  Shelton’s fourth seed Nikil Dagar defeated West Haven’s Johnny Chen 4-6, 6-2, 7-6.

In doubles play, Shelton’s top seed of J.P. Kocot and Soham Agrwal defeated West Haven’s Javon Huang and Caden Mateo 7-5, 6-4. West Haven won the second seed as David Guadarrama and Ali Hamza topped Kevin Foley and Krishiv Patel 6-0, 6-1, while Shelton’s third seed of Johnathan Ryder and Prime Minister Shah defeated Daniel Davis and Jordan Smith 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Westies fall in Opener
Xavier tops WH 6-1

  - The West Haven boys tennis team opened the season with a 6-1 loss to Xavier at West Haven High Monday afternoon.
West Haven’s only victory came in singles play as fourth-seeded Johnny Chen Will Finch 6-4, 6-3. Top-seeded Jaycek Simko defeated West Haven’s Miguel Torres 3-6, 6-4, 7-5, second-seeded Nathan Philip topped West Haven’s Brandon Sihaphong 6-2, 6-1, and third-seeded Sam March won 6-2, 6-2 over Eshwar Balakumar of West Haven.
In doubles play, the Falcons swept all three matches. Top-seeded Nikhil Tailor and Aanay Chandra defeated West Haven’s Javon Huang and Caden Mateo 6-1, 6-0, second-seeded Will Despress and Bryson Hester topped David Guadarrama and Ali Hamza of West Haven 6-3, 6-3, and Petrus Paul and Ben Romero defeated West Haven’s Woobin Kim and Jordan Smith 6-0, 6-0.


First of the Year
Westies top Shelton 6-1

 - The West Haven boys tennis team picked up its first victory of the season with a 6-1 road victory over Shelton Friday afternoon. The Westies improved to 1-1 with the victory.
In singles action, West Haven’s Miguel Torres defeated Chase Graber 7-5, 4-6. 7-6, second-seeded Brandon Sihaphong topped Jack Parkes 6-0, 5-7, 6-2, and fourth-seeded Johnny Chen won over JP Kocot 6-2, 6-4. Shelton’s Nikhil Dagar won in the third slot over Eshwar Balakumar 5-7, 6-2, 6-3.   
In doubles play, top-seeded Javon Huang and Caden Mateo defeated Gino Sorrentino and Dominik Golebiowski 6-2, 6-2, second-seeded David Guadarrama and Ali Hamza won over Anthony Rivera and Prem Shah 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, and third-seeded Woobin Kim and Jordan Smith defeated Kevin Foley and Misha Kit 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.

Westies post 7-0 victory

- The West Haven boys tennis team improved to 2-1 with a 7-0 victory over Platt Tech Saturday afternoon at West Haven High.
In singles action, top-seeded Eshwar Balakumar defeated Paul Corsini 8-2, second-seeded Johnny Chen topped Josiah Tilghman, third-seeded David Guadarrama won over DJ Huggett 8-0, and fourth-seeded Ali Hamza topped Chris Hernandez 8-1.
In doubles play, top-seeded Javon Huang and Caden Mateo won 8-6 over Josiah Tilghman and DJ Huggett, second-seeded Woobin Kim and Jordan Smith topped Chris Hernandez and Evan Santor 8-1, and Russel Basaen and Matthew Loo (WH) won in the third slot.

WH blanks East Haven 7-0

 - The West Haven boys tennis team won its third match in a row with a 7-0 victory over East Haven Tuesday afternoon. With the home victory, the Westies improved to 3-1 on the year.
In singles action, top-seeded Miguel Torres defeated Matteo Martinez 6-0, 6-1, second-seeded Brandon Sihaphong posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Mateo Romero, third-seeded Eshwar Balakumar topped Gustavo Floses Sao 6-2, 6-0, and fourth-seeded Woobin Kim won over Aedan Conness 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles play, top-seeded Javon Huang and Caden Mateo defeated Angel Orezco and Steve Condo 6-1, 6-4, second-seeded David Guadarrama and Ali Hamza topped Trevor Vacaro and Garth Collins 6-3, 6-1, and third-seeded Daniel Davis and Jordan Smith defeated Justin Trudeau and Luis Valenzuela 6-3, 6-2.

WH edges Law 4-3

 - The winning streak has reached four matches for the West Haven boys tennis team.
Winning three of four singles matches, West Haven defeated Jonathan Law 4-3 at West Haven High Wednesday afternoon. West Haven improved to 4-1 with the victory.  
In singles action, top-seeded Miguel Torres topped Jon Uruchidw 6-2, 6-1, second-seeded Brandon Sihaphong defeated Dean O’Donnell 6-3, 6-3, and third-seeded Eshwar Balakumar defeated Ryan Berendt 5-7, 6-1, 6-2.  Fourth-seeded Parth Goknale from Law topped West Haven’s Woobin Kim 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.

In doubles play, Law’s top seed of Sahawsh Bhatia and Sean Lexedor won over Javon Huang and Caden Mateo 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, and Law’s second seed of Sri Gudiavalletti and Alastarr Balin defeated David Guadarrama and Ali Hamza 6-4, 7-5. West Haven’s third seed of Daniel Davis and Jordan Smith won over Pierce Marino and Dylan Maselli 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.


High Five
WH wins fifth in row with 5-2 decision over Foran

- The West Haven boys tennis team won its fifth match in a row with a 5-2 decision over Foran at West Haven High Monday afternoon. With the victory, West Haven improved to 5-1 on the year.
In singles action, top-seeded Miguel Torres defeated Ryan Purviance 6-3, 6-0, second-seeded Brandon Sihaphong won over Arush Puri 6-0, 3-6, 6-1, while Foran won the final two singles spots. Third-seeded Tristan Adorno defeated West Haven’s Eshwar Balakumar 6-3, 2-6, 4-6, and fourth-seeded Oscar Lin topped West Haven’s Johnny Chen 2-6, 7-6, 6-2.
 In doubles action, West Haven’s top seed of Ali Hamza and David Guadarrama defeated Patrick Butler and Karthikeya Lakaji 6-0, 6-3, second-seeded Woobin Kim and Caden Mateo defeated Liam Banick and Deven Dai 6-1, 6-3, and third-seeded Daniel Davis and Jordan Smith topped Elijah Arinas and Billy Tumendemberel 6-0, 6-2.


Six in a Row
WH wins fifth in row with 5-2 decision over Foran

 - The winning streak has reached six matches for the West Haven boys tennis team. The Westies extended the streak with 7-0 victory over Career in New Haven Wednesday afternoon and improved to 6-1 on the year.
In singles play, top-seeded Miguel Torres posted a victory, while second-seeded Brandon Sihaphong also did the same. Third-seeded Eshwar Balakumar defeated Christian Santiago 6-0, 6-0 and fourth-seeded Johnny Chen topped Abraham Perez 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles action, top-seeded Javon Huang and Caden Mateo, second-seeded David Guadarrama and Ali Hamza, and third-seeded Daniel Davis and Jordan Smith all posted victories.


Streak Over
Westies fall to Notre Dame

 - The West Haven boys tennis team saw its six-match winning streak come to an end with a 5-2 loss against cross-town rival Notre Dame Monday afternoon at West Haven High. With the loss, West Haven fell to 6-2 on the year.
In singles action, Notre Dame’s top seed Mike Lorazetti defeated Miguel Torres 6-0, 6-0, second-seeded Brandon Sihaphong of West Haven topped Reed Nanmonn 6-2, 6-1, Notre Dame’s third seed Reamon Cueis defeated Eshwar Balakumar 6-4, 2-6, 10-6, and West Haven’s fourth seed Johnny Chen topped Stephen Torres 6-0, 6-0.

The Green Knights won all doubles matches. Top-seeded Pablo Concino and Nick Sabina defeated West Haven’s Javon Huang and Caden Mateo 6-3, 6-1, second-seeded Matt Rizzo and Graham Lampoley topped David Guadarrama and Ali Hamza 6-0, 7-5, and third-seeded Colin Lambley and Luke Ricci defeated Daniel Davis and Jordan Smith 6-3, 6-3.

Westies top Wilbur Cross

 - The West Haven boys tennis team got back on the winning track with a 5-2 defeat of Wilbur Cross at West haven High Tuesday afternoon. With the victory, the Westies improved to 7-2 on the season.
In singles action, top-seeded Miguel Torres defeated JJ O’garro 6-3, 6-1, Second-seeded Brandon Sihaphong topped Adam Sharqawr 6-0, 6-0, third-seeded Julian Theodore from Wilbur Cross topped West Haven’s Eshwar Balakumar 6-3, 6-1, and West Haven’s fourth seed Johnny Chen defeated Adrian Sampedro 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles play, top-seeded Alki Hussain and Kurt Boone of Cross topped West Haven’s. Javon Huang and Caden Mateo 6-4, 6-2.  Second-seeded David Guadarrama and Ali Hamza defeated Meet Patel and Vikrom Dalal 6-3, 6-1, and third-seeded Daniel Davis and Jordan Smith topped Ahilya Singh and Jenna Singh 6-2, 5-7, 12-10.

 - The West Haven boys tennis team fell to 7-3 with a 7-0 loss at Xavier Wednesday afternoon.
