Westies defeat Lyman Hall
WH wins fourth straight

 - In a tight match, the West Haven boys tennis team prevailed and defeated Lyman Hall 4-3 at Doolittle Park in Wallingford Wednesday afternoon. West Haven’s fourth straight victory helped the team improve to 9-3 on the year.
The two teams split the singles matches, while West Haven won two of three in doubles play to take home the victory.
In singles action, West Haven’s top seed Miguel Torres defeated Nathan Rininger 1-6, 6-2, 7-6.  Lyman Hall won the next two seeds as second-seeded Anshul Patel defeated Brandon Sihaphong of West Haven 6-4, 6-2, and third-seeded Ethan Tuxbury topped West Haven’s Eshwar Balakumar (WH) 6-4, 6-4. West Haven’s Johnny Chen defeated Zubear Khan in the fourth slot 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles play, Lyman Hall won in the top spot as Joe Marrone and Kevin Duong  topped David Guadarrama and Javon Huang 6-1, 6-0. West Haven won the next two spots to clinch the victory as second-seeded Valentin Diaz and Caden Mateo defeated Luca Delucia and Michael Mastriani 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, and third-seeded Mehmet Aciker and Ali Hamza topped Dylan Stackpole and Jacob Marrone 7-5. 6-4.


Foran slips by Westies
WH falls in Milford

 - After defeating Lyman Hall in a tough battle, the West Haven boys tennis team had another tough match in Milford. When all was said and done, the Westies fell to 9-4 on the year with a 4-3 loss at Foran High.
Foran and West Haven split the singles matches, but the Lions took two of three in doubles action to seal the victory.
In singles play, West Haven’s top seed of Miguel Torres defeated Ryan Purviance 6-1, 6-1, Foran’s second seed of Arush Puri topped Brandon Sihaphong 6-3, 6-4, while third-seeded Eshwar Balakumar of West Haven topped Tristan Adorno 7-6, 6-1. Foran’s  Oscar Lin defeated Johnny Chen of West Haven 6-4, 6-4 in the fourth slot.

In doubles play, top-seeded Keith Pokornowski and Johann Chen of Foran defeated David Guadarrama and Javon Huang 6-3, 7-6, while West Haven’s second seed of Valentin Diaz and Caden Mateo topped Steven Mingrone and Noah Held 6-1, 6-2. Keith Lakoji and John Brown of Foran won the third slot over Mehmet Aciker and Ali Hamza 5-7, 6-4, 10-8.

 - The West Haven boys tennis team is accustomed to playing close matches. The Westies did so again on Saturday and posted a 4-3 victory over Lyman Hall at West Haven High.
West Haven (10-4) split the four singles matches with Lyman Hall as Lyman Hall’s top seed Nate Rininger defeated Miguel Torres 7-5, 6-4.  West Haven’s Brandon Sihaphong won at the second seed over Joe Marrone 6-4, 7-5, and third-seeded Eshwar Balakumar topped Ethan Tuxbury 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.  Lyman Hall’s fourth seed Michael Masteionni defeated Johnny Chen 6-4, 7-5.
In doubles action, West Haven lost the top match as Lyman Hall’s Kevin Dvong and Wes Delucia defeated David Guadarrama and Javon Huang 6-0, 3-6, 7-5. 

The Westies then won the second and third seeds as second-seeded Valentin Diaz and Caden Mateo defeated Jacob Marrone and Jordan Macri 6-1, 6-1, and third-seeded Ali Hamza and Muhammad Tahir topped Dylan Stackpole and Zubear Khan 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.


Sheehan blanks Westies
WH falls to 10-5

 - The West Haven boys tennis team has been playing well throughout the whole season. Unfortunately for the Westies, Sheehan was ready to go Monday afternoon, sweeping the Westies 7-0 at Sheehan High to drop West Haven to 10-5 on the year.
In singles play, top-seeded Avery Solan defeated Miguel Torres 6-4, 6-4, second-seeded Satvik Agnihotram topped Brandon Sihaphong 6-1, 6-1, third-seeded Evan Vastakis defeated Eshwar Balakumar 6-2, 6-2, and fourth-seeded Jake Avitdale topped Johnny Chen (WH) 6-3, 6-0.

In doubles play, top-seeded Sylvie Karosi and Tristan Bonilla defeated David Guadarrama and Javon Huang 6-2, 8-6, second-seeded Carter Lagasse and Noah Valerio topped Valentin Diaz and Caden Mateo 6-1, 7-5, and third-seeded Geoffrey White and Bryan Medina topped Mehmet Aciker and Ali Hamza 6-4, 6-2.


Westies fall to Law
WH drops second straight

 - The West Haven boys tennis team lost its second straight match and fell to 10-6 on the year with a 4-3 defeat against Jonathan Law at West Haven High Tuesday afternoon.
The Westies lost three of four singles matches, with only fourth-seeded Johnny Chen posting a 6-3, 6-3 win over Siodarth Dash. Law’s top seed of Rishabh Nair defeated Miguel Torres 6-2, 6-3, second-seeded Dean O’Donnell topped West Haven’s Brandon Sihaphong 6-2, 4-2, and third-seeded Jon Uruchioa topped Eshwar Balakumar  6-3, 6-4. 
In doubles action, Law’s top seed of Alistair Balin and Arshaq Ahmed sealed the win as they defeated David Guadarrama and Javon Huang 6-4, 4-6. 6-4. West Haven’s second seed of Valentin Diaz and Caden Mateo topped Srivarsh Guolavalli and Saharsh Bhatia 5-7, 6-3, 6-2, and third-seeded Ali Hamza and Muhammad Tahir defeated Parth Gokhale and Sean Luxender 7-5, 3-6, 10-7.


Branford blanks Westies
WH drops third in row

 - The West Haven boys tennis team has hit a bit of a slump. Falling 7-0 at Branford Thursday afternoon, West Haven lost its third straight match and fell to 10-7 on the year.
In singles play, top-seeded Mathias Schalper of Branford defeated Miguel Torres 6-1, 6-0, second-seeded Adam Albrecht topped West Haven’s Brandon Sihaphong 6-4, 4-6, 10-8, Branford’s third-seeded Mason Porras defeated Eshwar Balakumar 6-2, 6-2, and fourth-seeded Evren Akin topped Johnny Chen 6-3, 6-3.

In doubles play, Branford’s top seed of Nirvan Paudyal and Matt Law defeated David Guadarrama and Javon Huang 6-3, 6-1, second-seeded Alex Ferrara and James Heier defeated Valentin Diaz and Javon Huang 6-0, 6-3, and third-seeded Ishaan Bhawnani and Sahill Bhawnani topped John Diaz and Ali Hamza 6-2, 6-3.

 - The West Haven boys tennis team dropped its fourth straight match and fell to 10-8 on the year with a 7-0 loss against Xavier at West Haven High Monday afternoon.
In singles play, Xavier’s top seed Tyler Ferguson topped Miguel Torres 6-1, 6-0, second-seeded Jaycek Simko defeated West Haven’s Brandon Sihaphong 6-3, 6-2, third-seeded Nihil Tailor defeated Eshwar Balakumar 6-1, 6-3, and fourth-seeded Soti Paul topped Johnny Chen (WH) 6-1, 6-3.

In doubles play, Xavier’s top-seeded Sam Marsh and Aanay Chandra topped David Guadarrama and Javon Huang 6-1, 6-0, second-seeded Petros Paul and Alex Charbak defeated Valentin Diaz and Caden Mateo 6-0, 6-1, and third-seeded Bryson Hester and Will Despress topped Mehmet Aciker and Ali Hamza 6-0, 6-2.


North Haven tops Westies
WH drops fifth in row

- The West Haven boys tennis team dropped its fifth straight match and fell to 10-9 on the year with a 5-2 defeat against North Haven at West Haven High Thursday afternoon.
West Haven’s lone victories came in singles play as second-seeded Brandon Sihaphong defeated Seth Tobin 6-2, 4-6, 7-5, and fourth-seeded Johnny Chen defeated Jack Segna 6-0, 6-2. North Haven’s top seed Lucas DeLencastre topped Miguel Torres 6-0, 6-0, and third-seeded Minh Nguyen defeated Eshwar Balakumar 6-0, 6-1. 

North Haven swept doubles play as top-seeded Jess Hansard and Billy Lipinski defeated David Guadarrama and Javon Huang 6-2, 6-2, second-seeded Evan Looney and Alex Ranciato topped Valentin Diaz and Caden Mateo 6-4, 7-5, and third-seeded Jonathan Chin and Oscar Hammarcund defeated John Diaz and Muhammad Tahir 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.


Westies fall to Hamden
WH drops season finale

- After such a solid start to the season, the West Haven boys tennis team finished the regular season in a bit of a slump. Losing its sixth straight match to close the season, the Westies finished the regular season with a 10-10 record.
The regular season finale saw the Westies travel to Hamden and come away with a 7-0 loss against the Green Dragons at Hamden High.
In singles play, Hamden’s top seed Quinn Northrop defeated Miguel Torres 6-0, 6-0, second-seeded Nolan Jermain topped West Haven’s Brandon Sihaphong 6-3, 6-1, third-seeded Paras Dodd defeated Eshwar Balakumar 6-2, 6-2, and Hamden fourth seed Anshul Druel topped Johnny Chen 4-6, 6-2, 10-7.

In doubles play, Hamden’s top seed of Kauslar Mohaly and Keshan Menon defeated Valentin Diaz and Caden Mateo 4-6, 6-3, 10-2, second-seeded Argon Sigla and Lucian Gaedan topped West Haven’s Ali Hamza and Javon Huang 6-2, 6-3, and third-seeded Lance Mandoza and Sean Dunhley topped Mehmet Aciker and Yousaf Khan 6-2, 9-7.


Season Over
WH falls to East Hartford

 - The season has come to an end for the West Haven boys tennis team. Despite losing six matches in a row to close the regular season, the Westies entered the Class LL state tournament qualifying round as the 15th seed and hosted No. 18 East Hartford.
West Haven could not get back on track as East Hartford posted a 5-2 victory at West Haven High Friday afternoon.
West Haven’s only victories came in doubles play as second-seeded David Guadarrama and Javon Huang topped Shahaan Siddigy and Jovick 6-0, 6-0, and third-seeded Mehmet Aciker and Ali Hamza defeated Thierry Ofori and Jeremia Ortiz 5-7, 7-6, 10-8. Top-seeded Valentin Diaz and Caden Mateo fell to Seb Mardales and Azaan Siddigy 6-0, 6-0.

In singles action, Dan Shemonsky topped West Haven’s Miguel Torres 6-2, 6-2, second-seeded Zach Perkoski defeated Brandon Sihaphong of West Haven 7-5, 7-6, third-seeded Bauer Larkin defeated West Haven’s Johnny Chen 1-6, 6-3, 6-1, and fourth-seeded Ben Boland topped Muhammad Tahir 6-1, 6-3.

Westies win Opener
WH tops Career 6-1

  - The West Haven boys tennis team won its season opener with a 6-1 win over Career at Edgewood Park in New Haven Tuesday afternoon.
The Westies started the season on the right foot, winning three of four singles matches. West Haven’s only loss in singles play came in the top spot as Career’s Marcus Duff defeated Miguel Torres 6-2, 7-6. 
West Haven’s Brandon Sihaphong won in the second slot as he topped Terry Giles 6-2, 6-3.  Third-seeded Eshwar Balakumar topped Ravi Dana 6-0, 6-0, and fourth-seeded Johnny Chen also won.
In doubles play, West Haven’s top seed of David Guadarrama and Javon Huang defeated Chris Santiago and Jaylen Lopes 6-0, 6-0, while second-seeded Valentin Diaz and Caden Mateo, and third-seeded Ali Hamza and Yousaf Khan both posted victories.

 - The West Haven boys tennis team improved to 2-0 with a 7-0 victory over Platt Tech Wednesday afternoon at West Haven High.
In singles play, top-seeded Miguel Torres defeated Kyle Droney 6-3, 7-5, second-seeded Brandon Sihaphong topped Josiah Tilghman 6-1, 6-0, third-seeded Eshwar Balakumar defeated Paul Corsine 6-2, 6-2, and fourth-seeded Johnny Chen topped Andrew Bloschichar 6-0, 6-1.
In doubles action, top-seeded Valentin Diaz and Caden Mateo of West Haven defeated Donovan Huggett and Allan Correia 6-2, 6-4, second-seeded David Guadarrama and Javon Huang topped Jaiden Harrison and Evan Santoro 6-0, 6-0, and third-seeded Ali Hamza and Yousaf Khan defeated Chris Hernandez and CJ Moore 6-0, 6-0.

 - In a battle of unbeaten teams, Wilbur Cross topped West Haven 4-3 at West Haven High Thursday afternoon. The Westies fell to 2-1 with the loss.
In singles play, top-seeded Miguel Torres of West Haven topped Joshua Ogarro 6-4, 6-2 and West Haven’s second-seeded Brandon Sihaphong defeated Kurt Boone 7-6, 4-6, 7-5.  Third seed Young In Kim of Cross defeated West Haven’s Eshwar Balakumar 6-1, 5-7, 6-3 as did fourth-seeded Adam Sharqawe, who topped West Haven’s Johnny Chen 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.
In doubles action, top-seeded Cassius Morgan-Coe and Mario Berrias of Wilbur Cross defeated David Guadarrama and Javon Huang 6-1, 6-2.  West Haven’s second seed of Valentin Diaz and Caden Mateo defeated Mateo Festa and Krish Patel 6-4, 6-2.  Third-seeded Adrian Sampedro and Vikram Dalal of Wilbur Cross topped West Haven’s Ali Hamza and Yousaf Khan 6-2, 2-6, 6-1.

 - The West Haven boys tennis team improved to 3-1 with a 7-0 road victory over East Haven Friday afternoon.
In singles play, top-seeded Miguel Torres defeated Greg Vera 6-1, 6-1, second-seeded Brandon Sihaphong topped Victor Unabia 6-1, 6-1, third-seeded Eshwar Balakumar defeated Shir Patel 6-1, 6-1, and fourth-seeded Johnny Chen defeated Gustavo Flores-Soto 6-1, 6-2.
In doubles action, top-seeded Valentin Diaz and Caden Mateo topped Mateo Ramiro and Mateo Martinez 6-0, 6-2, second-seeded Ali Hamza and Javon Huang defeated Jacob Ushehak and Steve Condo 6-2, 6-1, and third-seeded John Diaz and Muhammad Tahir topped Justin Sieng and Angel Orozco 6-0, 6-0.


Shelton edges Westies

- After getting back on the winning track with a win over East Haven, the West Haven boys tennis team knew it was in for a tough match against Shelton. The Gaels proved that to be true as they won three of four singles matches to take home a 4-3 victory over the Westies at West Haven High Monday afternoon.
With the loss, West Haven fell to 3-2 on the year.
In singles play, West Haven picked up its lone victory as top-seeded Miguel Torres defeated Chase Gruber 7-6. 6-3.  Shelton won the rest of the singles matches as Ben Rhodes defeated West Haven’s Brandon Sihaphong 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, third-seeded Adam Klein topped West Haven’s Eshwar Balakumar 6-4, 6-2, and fourth-seeded Nikhil Dagar topped Johnny Chen of West Haven 2-6, 7-6, 6-3.
In doubles action, Shelton’s top seed of Jack Mackniak and Jack Parkes defeated Valentin Diaz and Caden Mateo 6-1, 6-0.West Haven’s second seed of David Guadarrama and Muhammad Tahir topped Ryan Duloal and JP Kocot 6-1, 6-2, while West Haven’s third seed of Ali Hamza and Yousaf Khan defeated Kevin Faley and Siham Agrawal 6-4. 6-0.

WH blanks East Haven 7-0

- The West Haven boys tennis team got back on the winning track with a 7-0 victory over east Haven Friday afternoon at West Haven High.
In singles play, top-seeded Miguel Torres defeated Shiv Patel 6-0, 6-0, second-seeded Brandon Sihaphong topped Victor Unabia 6-0, 6-2, third-seeded Eshwar Balakumar defeated Mateo Ramero 6-1, 6-0, and fourth-seeded Johnny Chen won against Gustavo Flores-Soto 6-3, 6-1.

In doubles play, West Haven’s top seed of David Guadarrama and Javon Huang defeated Steve Condo and Jack Castillo 6-2, 6-0.  Second-seeded Valentin Diaz and Caden Mateo won against Angel Valazquez and Jacob Ushchak 6-2, 6-1, and third-seeded Ali Hamza and Yousaf Khan defeated Luis Tejeda-Valenzuela and Angel Orozco (EH) 6-0, 6-0.

WH sweeps doubles play in win over Foran

- The West Haven boys tennis team swept doubles play in a 5-2 victory over Foran at West Haven High Tuesday afternoon. With the victory, the Westies improved to 5-2 on the year.

Cross tops Westies
WH falls 5-2 against Governors

 - After suffering its first defeat of the year against Wilbur Cross earlier in the season, the West Haven boys tennis team had a second chance against the Governors Thursday afternoon. Unfortunately for the Westies, the Governors came out on top once again in New Haven.
With the loss, West Haven fell to 5-3 on the season, while Cross improved to 7-1.
West Haven picked up one of its victories in singles play as top-seeded Miguel Torres defeated JJ O’Garro 6-3, 6-4. West Haven’s only other victory came in doubles action as second-seeded Valentin Diaz and Caden Mateo defeated Krish Patel and Aki Hussian 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.
Cross won the rest of the matches as second-seeded Kurt Boone topped West Haven’s Brandon Sihaphong 7-5, 6-1, third-seeded Young In Kim defeated West Haven’s Eshwar Balakumar 6-4, 6-4, and fourth-seeded Adam Shargawr of Cross topped Johnny Chen 7-5, 6-3.

In doubles play, top-seeded Mario Berrios and Cassius Morgan Co of Cross defeated David Guadarrama and Javon Huang 6-1, 6-3, while third-seeded Vikram Dalal and Julian Theodore of Cross topped Ali Hamza and Muhammad Tahir 6-4, 6-3.

- The West Haven boys tennis team rebounded from a loss against Cross to defeat Career 6-1 at West Haven High Monday afternoon. With the victory, West Haven improved to 6-3 on the year.

 - The West Haven boys tennis team knew it was in for a tough battle visiting undefeated Shelton. Behind a team effort, the Westies prevailed, defeating Shelton 4-3 on the road Tuesday afternoon to improve to 7-3 on the year.
In singles play, top-seeded Miguel Torres defeated Chase Graber 6-3, 7-6, while second-seeded Brandon Sihaphong topped Ben Rhodes 4-6, 7-5, 6-1.  Shelton’s third seed Adam Klein topped West Haven’s Eshwar Balakumar 6-0, 6-0, while West Haven’s fourth seeded Johnny Chen defeated Anthony Rivera 6-2, 6-1.

In doubles play, Shelton’s top seed of Jack Mackniak and Jack Parkes defeated West Haven’s David Guadarrama and Javon Huang 6-0, 6-2.  West Haven’s second seed of Valentin Diaz and Caden Mateo topped Ryan Ouloul and J.  - The West Haven boys tennis team won its third match in a row and improved to 8-3 with a 7-0 victory over Platt Tech in Milford Monday afternoon.
In singles play, top-seeded Miguel Torres defeated Kyle Droney 8-6, second-seeded Brandon Sihaphong topped Josiah Tilghman 8-3, and third-seeded Eshwar Balakumar defeated Richie Wermuth 8-1.  Fourth-seeded Johnny Chen topped Paul Corsini 8-1, and fifth-seeded Jason Calogine defeated Jaiden Harrison 8-4.
