Westies fall to Law
WH falls 6-1 to remain winless

 The West Haven girls' tennis team continues searching for its first win of the year. Traveling to Milford, West Haven fell to Law, 6-1 Thursday afternoon.
The Westies (0-8) saw their only victory come in singles action as Shannon Card defeated Olivia Herman, 6-2, 6-2. 
In other singles play, top-seeded Rania Abu-Sitteh fell to Lianne Maynard, 6-0, 6-1, second-seeded Cindy Nguyen lost to Bihavani Jaladanki, 6-2, 6-4 and fourth-seeded Lhamo Dolma fell to Hebani Duggat, 6-2, 6-3. 
In doubles action, top-seeded Kara Patterson and Mikayla McLaughlin lost to Sravya Jaladanki and Katie Brady, 6-1, 6-1 and second-seeded Amalia Mohd and Nural Sauffian fell to Rachel Hannan and Sofya Calvin, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2. Third-seeded Linda Sihaphong and Kharl Reynado lost to Raeven Grant and Emma Shea, 6-1, 6-0.

Sheehan keeps Westies winless
Westies fall to Titans, 7-0

– The West Haven girls' tennis team continues to work in its bid for the first victory of the year. West Haven did not get that first victory Wednesday afternoon as the Westies fell to Sheehan, 7-0, in West Haven. 
In singles action, top-seeded Rania Abu-Sitteh lost to Sarah Gansley, 6-1, 6-0, second-seeded Cindy Nguyen lost 6-0, 6-0 to Kristin Viscardi and third-seeded Shannon Card dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision to Kseniya Dobrovolsky. The match at the fourth seed was taken by Tessa Arsenault as she defeated Lhamo Dolma, 6-3, 7-6 (5). 
In doubles play, Kara Patterson and Mikayla McLaughlin fell in the top slot to Betty Capot and Julia Franzik by scores of 6-0 and 6-1. Second-seeded Talon Yahaya and Marla Gagne fell to Riley Mayne and Nicki Petit, 6-1, 6-3 and third-seeded Amalia Mohd and Linda Sihaphong lost to Cassidy Duffany and Sharon Gudzon 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.

WH falls to 0-6 with loss to Shelton

– The West Haven girls' tennis team is still looking for its first victory of the season. With a 7-0 loss to Shelton Monday afternoon, the Westies fell to 0-6 on the year. 
In singles play, top-seeded Rania Abu-Sitteh fell to Rigel Mahmood, 6-2, 6-1, Cindy Nguyen lost to Alex Gombs, 6-0, 6-0, third-seeded Shannon Card lost to Aless Boisevt, 6-0, 6-0 and Lhamo Dolma fell to Anna May, 6-4, 6-2. 
In doubles action, top-seeded Mikayla McLaughlin and Kara Patterson fell to Kristen Ferris and Mariana Hnyp, 6-1, 6-2. Second-seeded Talon Yahaya and Nural Sauffian lost to Emily Rogolin and Vicky Dortenzio, 6-2, 6-1, while Amalia Mohd and Jessica Kuchta lost to Sam Dimas and Vipra Patel, 6-2, 6-0.

Mercy defeats Westies
WH falls to 0-5 with loss

 The West Haven girls’ tennis team is still searching for its first win of the saeson. With a 6-1 loss to Mercy Wednesday afternoon, West Haven fell to 0-5 on the year. 
The Westies were victorious in only one event as Lhamo Dolma defeated Genevieve Denalt 3-6, 7-5 10-8. 
Rania Abu-Sitteh fell as the top singles seed to Nicole Piazza, 6-1, 6-1, Cindy Nguyen lost to Natalie Harackiewicz, 6-1, 6-1 and Shannon Card fell to Erica Magrin, 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles action, top-seeded Kara Patterson and Mikayla McLaughlin were defeated by Hanna Jones and Emily Schofield 6-4, 6-1, and Talon Yahaya and Nural Sauffian lost to Summer Klotzback and Meghan Tomassetti, 6-1, 7-5. Presley Termini and Maria Walton defeated Amalia Mohd and Linda Sihaphong in the third match by scores of 6-4 and 7-6.

Westies fall to Guilford
Indians shut out WH, 7-0

 The West Haven girls' tennis team traveled to Guilford in hopes of picking up its first victory of the season Monday afternoon. Such was not the case as the Westies were defeated, 7-0. 
In singles play, top-seeded Rania Abu-Sitteh fell to Kristen Forscher, 6-0, 6-1, second-seeded Cindy Nguyen lost to Anna Babbin 6-1, 6-0 and third-seeded Shannon Card fell to Genevieve Wilson, 6-1, 6-1. Lhamo Dolma played a competitive match at the fourth spot but fell to Ritika Makhijani, 6-2, 6-4. 
In doubles action, top-seeded Kara Patterson and Talon Yahaya lost to Lucy Haskell and Madeline Montenegro, 6-1, 6-0, second-seeded Mikayla McLaughlin and Nural Sauffian dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Rebecca Elge and Amanda Lynn, and third-seeded Marla Gagne and Miya Bidon dropped a 4-6, 6-4, 11-9 decision to Olivia Montessi and Melissa Yanbul.

Westies looking for first win after loss to Hillhouse/Career

- The West Haven girls’ tennis team is still searching for its first victory of the year. The Westies played better on Thursday afternoon, but still came up short in a 6-1 loss to Hillhouse/Career.
Amalia Mohd and Jessica Kuchta again provided the lone victory as the pair defeated Meeshali Patel and Suhami Patel 6-0, 6-4 as the third doubles seed. 
Kara Patterson and Mikayla McLaughlin fell to Teresa Pineiro and Aleena Kazmi 6-1, 6-4 and Talon Yahaya and Nural Sauffian lost to Janell Cooper and Marla Cortes 6-4, 6-4. 
In singles play, Rania Abu-Sitteh fell to Tyla Goodridge in the top singles match by a score of 6-0, 6-3. In the second-seeded match, Cindy Nguyen lost to Jada Wilborne 6-1, 6-2, Shannon Card fell to Marie Topu 6-3, 6-1 and Lhamo Dolma fell 6-3, 6-2.

Westies fall to Branford
Hornets win 6-1 as WH falls to 0-2

- Looking to get its first win of the season, the West Haven girls’ tennis team came up short Monday afternoon in a 6-1 loss at Branford. 
The only West Haven victory came in the third doubles spot as Amalia Mohd and Jessica Kuchta won over Amanda Mauriello and Brittany Sullivan 7-6, 5-7, 11-9. The victory by Mohd and Kuchta marked the second straight match the team has posted West Haven's lone victory. 
"They played verey smart and were consistent," West Haven coach Kara Kaczynski said of the winning doubles team. 
In singles action, Rania Abu-Sitteh fell as the top seed to Julia Watsky 6-1, 6-2, while Cindy Nguyen lost to Kathryn Collins 6-0, 6-0, Lhamo Dolma fell to Zhanetta Khoultchaeva 6-0, 6-0 and Shannon Card also fell to Rachel Krug 3-6, 6-1, 10-3. 
"I saw huge gains from our last few matches in both singles and doubles," Kaczynski said. "I saw improvement in consistency, communication in doubles and footwork in both singles and doubles."
In doubles play, Kara Patterson and Mikayla McLaughlin were defeated in the top slot by Seyoung Lim and Ellie Bloomquist 6-0, 6-3, while the second seed of Talon Yahaya and Nural Sauffian also lost to Maria Quagliano and Jackie Wells 6-2, 6-3.  
"Talon Yahaya played very well in second doubles as well as Shannon Card at fourth singles."

Tough Start
Westies fall to Hamden in season opener

The West Haven girls’ tennis team opened the season in a tough way. Winning only once in doubles action, West Haven fell to Hamden 6-1 in the season opener for both teams Wednesday afternoon at West Haven. 
The lone West Haven victory came in doubles action as the team of Jessica Kuchta and Amalia Mohd posted a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Casey Bonilla and Sarah Skedes. 
The top doubles team of Kara Patterson and Mikayla McLaughlin fell 6-1, 6-1, while the second seed of Talon Yahaya and Nural Sauffian fell 4-6, 6-0 and 6-1. 
In singles play, Rania Abu-Sitteh fell as the top seed to Emily Ryder, 6-3, 6-1. Second-seeded Cindy Nguyen lost to Sarah Cubells 6-1, 6-2, third-seeded Lhamo Dolma lost to Kristin Cataldo 6-0, 6-0 and fourth-seeded Shannon Card fell to Mia Bonadsien 6-2, 6-2. 

One Stroke at a Time
Westies looking to surprise competition

West Haven girls’ tennis coach Kara Kaczynski feels her team is ready to surprise the competition. With plenty of hard work in the offseason, Kaczynski thinks her players are ready to compete.
“I am very excited for this season,” Kaczynski said. “We are a young team and so many girls worked on their game in the offseason. I think we will take some teams by surprise.”
Leading the way for the Westies in 2013 will be captains Amalia Mohd and Kara Patterson. The seniors will play doubles and, according to Kaczynski, are excellent leaders.

“Both will play doubles,” Kaczynski said. “Both girls are great leaders and hard workers. They help to motivate the other girls on the team.”
Seniors Mikayla McLaughlin and Jessica Kuchta will play doubles as will sophomore Talon Yahaya.
“They (McLaughlin and Kutcha) are both leaders on the team and will be assets in doubles. Talon is a very powerful doubles player who every day improves.”
The Westies will also have some talented players on the singles level as well. Sophomores Rania Abu-Sitteh and Cindy Nguyen will play major roles in singles action.
“Rania has improved in her singles skills and will be strong in the singles lineup,” Kaczynski said. “Cindy played doubles last year, but will be playing singles this year. She has really improved in all areas of her singles game.”
Kaczynski will also get significant contributions from Lhamo Dolma, Nural Sauffian, Shannon Card and Marla Gagane.
“All will be contributing to the varsity lineup,” Kaczynski said. “All have improved and they are dedicated to working on their game.”
West Haven opens the season Wednesday, April 3, 2013, hosting Hand at 3:45 p.m.

Westies fall to Law

 The West Haven girls’ tennis team fell to Jonathan Law Friday afternoon, 6-1, in West Haven to complete the season with an 0-18 record. 
West Haven’s lone victory came in singles play where Shannon Card defeated Olivia Herman,6-4, 6-1.
In the rest of the singles action, Rania Abu-Sitteh lost to Lianne Maynard, 6-0, 6-0, second-seeded Cindy Nguyen fell to Briavani Jaladanki, 6-2, 6-2 and fourth-seeded Lhamo Dolma fell to Hebani Duggal, 6-2, 7-6 (8-6).

 The search for the first victory continues for the West Haven girls' tennis team. The Westies remained winless as they fell to Branford, 7-0, Thursday afternoon.
In singles play, Rania Abu-Sitteh fell as the top seed to Julia Watsky, 6-4, 6-0, second-seeded Cindy Nguyen fell to Tally Sepot, 6-0, 6-2, and third-seeded Shannon Card dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision to Ellie Bloomquist. Fourth-seeded Lhamo Dolma fell to Seyoung Lim, 6-2, 6-0.

Hamden blanks Westies
Westies fall to 0-14 with 7-0 loss

 The West Haven girls' tennis team traveled to Hamden searching for its first win of the season. Unfortunately for the Westies, the win never came as Hamden posted a 7-0 shutout. 
In singles action, Rania Abu-Sitteh lost to Emily Ryder, 6-1, 6-3, Cindy Nguyen fell to Kristin Cataldo 6-2, 6-2 and third-seeded Shannon Card lost to Mia Bonadies, 6-2, 6-2. Marla Gagne rounded out singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 loss to Ellenton Gbanya.

Lyman Hall defeats Westies
WH falls to Trojans, 5-2

 Despite putting up a valiant effort, the West Haven girls' tennis team fell to Lyman Hall, 5-2, in West Haven Friday afternoon. With the loss, the Westies dropped to 0-13 on the season. 
In singles action, Rania Abu-Sitteh defeated Sarah Pascal, 6-4, 6-1, as the top seed. Cindy Nguyen fell to Erika Fulton, 6-2, 6-1, in the second slot, Shannon Card lost to Isy Fishbein-ouimette, 6-2, 6-0 and Lhamo Dolma won in the fourth slot with a 6-0, 6-1 decision over Savannah Wilkinson.

Westies fall to Career/Hillhouse in search for first victory

 West Haven’s search for its initial victory continues as the Westies were defeated by Career/Hillhouse, 5-2, Friday afternoon. With the loss, West Havendropped to 0-12.
Rania Abu-Sitteh won in singles action by scores of 3-6, 6-4, (10-4) over Tyler Goodridge in the top spot. Second-seeded Cindy Nguyen fell to Jada Wilborne, 6-0, 6-1 and third-seeded Shannon Card lost to Nur Amir, 6-4, 6-2. Lhamo Dolma fell in the fourth slot against Kimberly Catubig, 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles play, Kara Patterson and Mikayla McLaughlin fell to Aleena Kazmi and Teresa Pineiro, 6-0, 6-4, while second-seeded Talon Yahaya lost 6-0, 6-4 against Janelle Cooper and Marie Toupou. Amalia Mohd and Jessica Kuchta won in the third spot over Tanvi Patel and Meeshali Patel, 6-0, 6-0.

Getting Closer
WH falls short in search for first victory

 The West Haven girls' tennis team is inching closer to its first victory of the season. Unfortunately for the Westies, that initial victory did not come Wednesday against East Haven. 
Winning just once in each of the singles and doubles play, West Haven fell to East Haven, 5-2, in West Haven. 
In singles play, Rania Abu-Sitteh fell to Eliza Gladwin, 6-1, 6-1, Cindy Nguyen fell to Elise Tomasello 6-2, 6-1 and Lhamo Dolma lost to Jurgena Hysolli, 6-2, 6-3. Shannon Card picked up the lone singles victory in singles action as she won at the third seed over Julianna Maisano, 6-2, 7-5. 
In doubles play, Kara Patterson and Mikayla McLaughlin fell at the top spot against Pam Masella and Briana Dessureau, 6-4, 6-0, while second-seeded Talon Yahaya and Nural Sauffian defeated Alexis Hernandez and Tori Carlson 5-7, 6-4, 7-5. Third-seeded Amalia Mohd and Jessica Kuchta fell to Corrine Palmer and Donita Canieso, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2.

– Looking to pick up its first win of the season, the West Haven girls' tennis team was unable to do so Monday afternoon. Traveling to Cheshire, the Westies fell 7-0 and dropped to 0-10 on the year. 
In singles action, Rania Abu-Sitteh fell as the top seed to Anna Toscano, 6-0, 6-0, Cindy Nguyen lost to Nadja Pejovic in the second slot, 6-1, 6-0, and Shannon Card was defeated by Sara Bruce n the third spot, 6-0, 6-0. Lhamo Dolma fell as the fourth seed, 6-0, 6-1, to Jamie Andrews. 
In doubles action, top-seeded Kara Patterson and Mikayla McLaughlin lost to Lindsey Garibaldi and Meredith Bryden, 6-0, 6-0, and second-seeded Talon Yahaya and Nural Sauffian fell to Katie Freitag and Christy Freitag, 6-0, 6-2. Third-seeded Amalia Mohd and Marla Gagne lost to Sidney Tomko and Katie Lynch, 6-2, 6-2.

Pacers dominate in 7-0 win

 While there are continued improvements, the West Haven girls’ tennis team is still searching for its first win of the season. The Westies fell to 0-9 with a 7-0 loss at Sacred Heart Academy Friday afternoon.
In singles play, top-seeded Rania Abu-Sitteh lost to Caleigh Curreen, 6-0, 6-0, second-seeded Cindy Nguyen lost to Claudia Krah, 6-0, 6-1 and third-seeded Shannon Card dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision against Jenna Fortunita, 6-0, 6-0. Lhamo Dolma fell to Bea Alexander 6-3, 6-3.
In doubles play, Mikayla McLaughlin and Nural Sauffian fell as the top seed in doubles action to Lucy  Anderson and Maggie Hughes, 6-1, 6-0, while Amalia Mohd and Linda Sihaphong fell to Margarett Maribella and Casey Marak, 6-2, 6-0. Kharl Reynado and Stefania Vendrella lost in the third slot against Aggie Strong and Christine Radwell, 6-0, 6-0.
