East Haven sends Westies to second straight loss
WH struggles in singles play

- The West Haven boys tennis team fell to 6-5 on the year after suffering its second straight defeat Monday afternoon. The Westies, playing without Ed Ozanne, lost four singles matches as East Haven avenged an earlier season loss to the Westies.
In singles play, the lineup was shuffled without Ozanne. Senior Brandon Patterson took Ozanne’s spot as the top seed and fell to Evan Moore 6-2, 6-2.
Junior Sebastian Moraga lost as the second seed to Jack Brereton 6-2, 6-2, sophomore John Biba fell to Andrew Schneer in the closest singles match of the day 6-3, 7-5 and senior John Dulfo lost to Tim Dessureau 6-1, 6-3.
Sophomore Chris Mazzacane moved into singles action from his doubles spot and picked up West Haven’s lone victory in singles play. Mazzacane easily defeated Nick Carrano 6-0, 6-1.
West Haven swept both matches in doubles play. Top-seeded William Ashong and Kevin Murty defeated Mike Luther and Robert Fucci 6-4, 7-6 (2) and freshman Devin Hickman and junior John Matrisciano defeated Sean Dugan and Evan Schneer 6-3, 6-0.

Singles play nets three victories

– The West Haven boys tennis team improved to 7-5 with a 4-3 victory over Career Thursday afternoon. Three victories in singles play helped propel the Westies to the victory.
In singles play, second-seeded Brandon Patterson defeated Kyle Catubig 6-2, 6-3, fourth-seeded John Biba was victorious over Josh Dalby 6-0, 6-0 and fifth-seeded Chris Mazzacane defeated Mahir Rana 6-2, 6-0.
Top-seeded Ed Ozanne returned from a short absence but came up on the losing end against Rohit Grover. Ozanne fell in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. Third-seeded Sebastian Moraga also fell in straight sets as he dropped 6-2, 6-2 decision to Rahni Lawrence.
In doubles action, top-seeded William Ashong and Kevin Murty were victorious in a tight match against Zaib Ansari and Preetham Bangera, winning 7-5, 7-5. Devin Hickman and John Matrisciano fell as the second seed against Syed Hussain and Srinath Ramanan 6-3, 6-3.

Shelton rolls overWest Haven

– The West Haven boys tennis team fell to 7-6 on the season with a 6-1 loss to Shelton at West Haven Friday afternoon. West Haven managed only a victory in doubles play to avoid the shutout.
Second-seeded Chris Mazzacane and John Matrisciano defeated Alex Lee and Brian Welch 6-2, 6-2. West Haven’s William Ashong and Kevin Murty fell as the top-seeded doubles team, losing to Brian Lampert and Jose Alvarado 6-4, 6-7 (5), 10-6.
In singles play, top-seeded Ed Ozanne fell to John Keno Rivera 6-2, 6-1 and second-seeded Brandon Patterson dropped a tight match against Kyle Packnick 6-0, 5-7, 6-2. Sebastian Moraga dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision against John Villaluz, John Biba fell to Lukas Hall 7-6 (5), 6-0 and Eric Mitchell fell to Adam MacNeill 6-3, 6-1.

 The West Haven boys tennis team dropped its second straight match Monday afternoon and fell to 7-7 on the year. The Westies were soundly defeated by North Haven 6-1.
Monday’s road match saw West Haven post only a victory in singles play as Eric Mitchell defeated Istvan Kanyo 7-6, 6-7, 7-6 in the closest match of the day.
Top-seeded Ed Ozanne fell to Charles Hoyt 6-3, 6-2, second-seeded Brandon Patterson fell to Andrew Amarone 6-1, 6-2 and third-seeded Sebastian Moraga lost to Owen Evans 6-0, 6-0. John Biba was defeated by Arthitphon Sihabout 6-0, 6-0 in the fourth slot.
In doubles action, top-seeded William Ashong and Kevin Murty dropped a 6-4, 7-5 decision against Andrew Villabona and David King 6-4, 7-5 while Chris Mazzacane and John Matrisciano lost to Sam Dzialo and Greg Vece 3-6, 6-3, 10-6.

Westies fall under .500

- The West Haven boys tennis team suffered its third straight defeat and fell to 7-8 with a 4-3 loss to cross-town rival Notre Dame Tuesday afternoon. The Green Knights controlled played in singles action, allowing them to take home the victory.
While Notre Dame won four of the five matches in singles action, the Westies swept doubles play. Top-seeded William Ashong and Kevin Murty defeated Sky LoRicco-Sykes and Connor Andersen 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 and Chris Mazzacane and John Matrisciano defeated James DeBowes and Pat Francis 6-4, 6-2.
In singles action, the lone West Haven victory came in the match of fourth-seeded Eric Mitchell as he defeated Bob Steele in a tight contest 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (3).
Top-seeded Ed Ozanne fell to Mike Balokoz 6-2, 6-4, second-seeded Brandon Patterson lost to Ed Lee 6-1, 7-6 (8-6) and third-seeded Sebastian Moraga fell to Colby Cretella 6-1, 6-1. John Biba rounded out play with a loss to Abhilaash Vankayala 4-6, 6-0, 6-4.

Westies fall to Sheehan
Lose fourth straight

– The West Haven boys tennis team fell to 7-9 on the season after it dropped its fourth straight match Wednesday afternoon. The Westies traveled to Wallingford and fell to Sheehan 6-1.
William Ashong and Kevin Murty picked up West Haven’s lone victory in doubles action as the pair defeated Rob Seng Seng Gomez and Kevin Thompson. That would be West Haven’s lone victory as Yu-Chuan Yang and David Thai defeated John Matrisciano and Chris Mazzacane.
In singles play, top-seeded Ed Ozanne lost to Evan Gladney 6-2, 6-1, and second-seeded Brandon Patterson fell to Jared Thurston 6-1, 7-5. Third-seeded Sebastian Moraga dropped a 6-2, 7-5 decision to Matt Mezzei, fourth-seeded Eric Mitchell fell to Carl Thurston 6-0, 6-1 and John Biba dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision to Joe Chordas.

 The West Haven boys tennis team improved to 8-9 and won for the first time in five matches with a 6-1 victory over Jonathan Law Friday afternoon. West Haven’s lone loss came in singles play as top-seeded Ed Ozanne was defeated by Chris Ettore 6-2, 6-3.
The Westies won the rest of their matches as second-seeded Brandon Patterson beat Jess Viscardi 6-4, 6-3, Sebastian Moraga won over Ben Marus 6-1, 6-3 and Eric Mitchell defeated Adam Weber 6-2, 7-6 (2). John Biba rounded out singles play with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Ratan Manohar.
In doubles action, top-seeded William Ashong and Kevin Murty defeated Jack Campbell and Matt Szysiel 6-3, 6-1. Second-seeded Chris Mazzacane and John Matrisciano defeated Corey Santos and Gabe Salles 6-4, 6-1.

Defeat Lyman Hall for second straight win

– The West Haven boys tennis team improved to 9-9 on the season and won its second straight match after defeating Lyman Hall Friday afternoon. The Westies won three matches in singles play to narrowly defeat the Trojans 4-3.
In singles action, top-seeded Ed Ozanne defeated Wesley Krombel 6-2, 5-7, 6-1, while second-seeded Brandon Patterson fell to Nick Madonna 6-3, 6-3. At the third seed, Sebastian Moraga also fell as he was defeated by Brian Murphy 6-1, 6-2.
The Westies rounded out singles action with a pair of victories. Eric Mitchell won in the fourth spot, defeating Kevin Kutys 6-1, 6-3 and John Biba defeated Conor Makepeace 6-2, 6-2.
West Haven split its matches in doubles play. Top-seeded Kevin Murty and William Ashong were beaten by Brendon Woolley and Jacob Struble 6-4, 7-5 while John Matrisciano and Chris Mazzacane defeated Andrew Zona and Ryan McEnvoy 6-0, 6-2.

Westies too much for Lions

- The West Haven boys tennis team improved to 10-9 with its third straight victory Tuesday afternoon in West Haven. The Westies won three of five matches in singles play to defeat Foran - Milford 5-2. The teams used the pro set format, playing to eight points.
In singles play, top-seeded Ed Ozanne defeated Julian Yuliawan 8-1, second-seeded Brandon Patterson won 8-2 over Brandon Lee and fifth-seeded John Biba defeated Chris Kyek 8-0. Third-seeded Sebastian Moraga fell against Brendan Carey 8-1 and fourth-seeded Eric Mitchell fell to Bobby Fohrenbach 8-2.
In doubles action, the Westies swept both matches. The top seed of William Ashong and Kevin Murty defeated Kevin Vargas and Zach Taylor 8-5. Second-seeded Chris Mazzacane and John Matrisciano defeated Ney Valdez and Lukas Guimaraes 8-1.

Westies close season in style
Sweep Cross to finish 11-9

- The West Haven tennis team closed the regular season in impressive style. With a 7-0 victory over Wilbur Cross, the Westies, who opened the season by winning their first three matches, ended the season victorious in their final four matches to improve to 11-9.
The West Haven sweep saw top-seeded singles player Ed Ozanne defeat Jorge Monroy 6-1, 6-4 and second-seeded Brandon Patterson win over Ambrose Orr 6-0, 6-7 (5) and 10-4. Sebastian Moraga defeated Fabio Dosanjos as the third seed 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 and Eric Mitchell defeated Alisha Noble 6-0, 7-5. John Biba rounded out singles play with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Tyla Goodridge 6-1, 6-4.
In doubles action, top-seeded William Ashong and Kevin Murty defeated Aliona Alexander and Melissa Gargano 6-0, 6-0. The second seed of Chris Mazzacane and John Matrisciano also won over German Gomez and Adriana Roberts 6-0, 6-0.

Westies open season with win over Lions
Doubles key to victory

- The West Haven boys tennis team opened the 2011 season with a 4-3 victory over Foran-Milford. The Westies split a pair of singles matches but took both on the doubles side to come away with the narrow victory.
On the singles side, senior Ed Ozanne fell to Bradley Orban 6-1, 6-0 as Ozanne was unable to get on track. In a battle with freshman Julian Yuliawan of Foran, Brandon Patterson prevailed 6-4, 6-4.
Foran’s Brendan Carey easily defeated Eric Mitchell 6-1, 6-2 and Kyle Michelson outlasted West Haven’s Sebastian Moraga 6-3, 6-4.That would be it for Foran as West Haven took home the remaining matches.
West Haven’s only other singles victory came as sophomore John Biba defeated Robert Fohrenbach 6-3, 6-3. West Haven then swept the doubles action.
The Westies had one hard fought match and a sweep to post the victory. William Ashong and Kevin Murty topped Ryan Hannon and Brian Darrow 6-4, 6-3 and John Matrisciano and Chris Mazzacane shut out Ney Valdez and Zach Taylor 6-0, 6-0.

Westies dump Panthers
Open season with two straight wins

 The West Haven boys tennis team has started the season in impressive fashion. The Westies improved to 2-0 with a 6-1 victory over Platt Tech - Milford Thursday afternoon.
The Westies dominated the match, with only a hard fought loss in the second singles match preventing a sweep. That match between West Haven’s Brandon Patterson and Platt Tech’s Adam Konwerski saw Konwerski prevail in a match that could have gone longer.
Konwerski won the first set 6-4 before Patterson prevailed in the second set 7-6. The third set would decide the match and after both players went back and forth, Konwerski prevailed 11-9 for Platt Tech's only win.
In the other singles matches, top-seeded Ed Ozanne defeated Juan Pinto 6-0, 6-2, junior Eric Mitchell beat Rick Smith 6-1, 6-2 at the third seed and Sebastian Moraga defeated Caitlyn Ahern 6-1, 6-4. Sophomore John Biba rounded out the singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 victory.
In doubles action, Platt Tech only managed to take home one point. West Haven’s William Ashong and Kevin Murty defeated Geary Lowery and Robert Matt 6-0, 6-0 and Chris Mazzacane and John Matrisciano defeated Liz Limauro and freshman Tom Hallegren 6-1, 6-0.

With the loss, Platt Tech falls to 1-1.
Westies off to sizzling start
Defeat Wilbur Cross to improve to 3-0

- The West Haven boys tennis team continues to impress. The Westies won their third straight match to start the season as they defeated Wilbur Cross 5-2.
West Haven’s doubles teams remained impressive as the two teams continued their winning ways. The top-seeded doubles team of Chris Ashong and Kevin Murty defeated Tyler Goodridge and Melissa Gargano 6-4, 6-4, while the team of Chris Mazzacane and John Matrisciano defeated Alvao Quispe and Lizzie Miedzinski 6-0, 6-2.
In single play, the Westies won three of the five matches played. Top-seeded Ed Ozanne defeated Fabio dos Anjos 6-0, 6-2 and second-seeded Brandon Patterson was a victor over Amos Orr by scores of 3-6, 7-5 and 6-4.
Eric Mitchell fell in the third slot to Jorge Monroy 6-0, 6-4 and Sebastian Moraga fell to Carlos Granda 6-2, 6-3. In the final singles slot, sophomore John Biba defeated Rosie Alexander 6-2, 6-0.  

Indians slam Westies
Perfect start over for WH

- The perfect start to the season has come to an end for theWest Haven boys tennis team. After winning their first three matches of the season, the Westies saw that streak snapped against North Haven 7-0 Monday afternoon in West Haven.
In an afternoon filled with competitive matches, the Indians prevailed in each.West Haven put up a fight through each match but were unable to stop the Indians.
In singles play, top-seeded Ed Ozanne won the first set 6-3 but fell to Charles Hoyt 6-1, 6-0 in the final two sets. Brandon Patterson fell to Andrew Amarone in the second slot 6-1, 6-4 and North Haven’s Owen Evans defeated Eric Mitchell 6-3, 6-3 at the third seed.
Sebastian Moraga battled but fell to Jake Biller 6-4, 6-4 and John Biba fell at the fifth seed to Andrew Villabona. Biba won the first set 6-1, but could not finish off Villabona, falling 6-2 in the second set and 10-3 in the third set.
Doubles action also saw hard fought matches. Top-seeded Chris Ashong and Kevin Murty took the first set against Istvan Kanyo and David King by a score of 6-4, but lost the second set 6-4 and the third set 7-6.
Sam Dzialo and freshman Rees Kamp completed the sweep in the second doubles action by defeating Chris Mazzacane and John Matrisciano 8-3.   

Westies back in win column
Singles play key to victory

– The West Haven boys tennis team improved to 4-1 with a 4-3 victory over Career Friday afternoon. The Westies won three singles matches to propel them to the victory in New Haven.
In singles action, top-seeded Ed Ozanne won the first set 6-1 but fell in the final two sets against Rohit Grover 6-3, 6-0. Brandon Patterson won at the second seed as he defeated Kyle Catabig. After losing the first set 6-3, Patterson rebounded in emphatic fashion, winning the final two sets 6-0, 6-0.
Sebastian Moraga easily defeated Srinath Ramanan 6-0, 6-0, but Eric Mitchell fell as the fourth seed against Alex Lawrence 6-3, 6-0. John Biba took home the fifth seed in easy fashion with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Joe Marini.
In doubles action, top-seeded William Ashong and Kevin Murty defeated Josh Dalby and Pretham Bangera 6-3, 6-2. John Dulfo and John Matrisciano fell to Syeed Hussain and Zaib Ansari 7-5, 7-6.

Falcons roll past Westies
WH suffers second straight setback

- The West Haven boys tennis team suffered its second loss of the season after falling to Xavier - Middletown Monday afternoon. Despite playing competitive matches, the Westies fell to the Falcons 6-1.
West Haven's Ed Ozanne fell at the top singles spot to Will Loftus 6-2, 6-2 but second-seeded Brandon Patterson defeated Max Schumann 6-3, 6-2 for West Haven's only victory on the day.
Sebastian Moraga was shut out in the third seed 6-0, 6-0 by Devin McManus, Eric Mitchell fell to Dom Brzozowski 6-1, 6-1 in the fourth slot and John Biba ws defeated by James Rosborough 6-0, 6-1 to close singles play.
In doubles action, William Ashong and Kevin Murty battled in the top spot but came up short. Xavier's Tim Kraner and Michael Bacon handed Ashong and Murty a 6-3, 6-4 defeat.
In the final doubles match, J.T. Maher and Ryan Villanueva won over John Dulfo and John Matrisciano 8-1.
West Haven fell to 4-2 on the season with the loss. Xavier improved to 2-2.

West Haven defeats Easties
Westies picked up fifth victory of the year

– The West Haven boys tennis team improved to 5-2 with a 5-2 victory over East Haven Thursday afternoon. The Westies swept action in doubles play and won three of the five singles matches.
In doubles play, top-seeded William Ashong and Kevin Murty defeated Mike Dessureau and Jake Fetzner 6-1, 6-3. The second seed of John Dulfo and John Matrisciano won 6-4, 6-1 over Evan Schneer and Sean Dugan.
Ed Ozanne won at the top spot in singles action when he defeated Kevin Yoo 7-5, 7-6 (3). Brandon Patterson fell at the second seed against Evan Moore 6-1, 6-1, and Sebastion Moraga fell to Jack Brereton 6-1, 6-4.
The fourth and fifth seeds for West Haven were victorious. Eric Mitchell defeated Tim Dessureau 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 and John Biba defeated Mike Luther 6-2, 6-1.

Hamden sweeps Westies
Green Dragons remain undefeated

- The West Haven boys tennis team was looking forward to the strong test of playing against solid competition. Traveling to Hamden to play the undefeated Green Dragons, the Westies were going to be put to the test.
Monday afternoon's showdown proved the Westies still have some work to do before catching up with the Green Dragons. Hamden swept the Westies on the way to a 7-0 victory as West Haven fell to 5-3 on the year. .
West Haven played its most competitive matches on the doubles side. At the top seed, John Matrisciano and Kevin Murty fell to Jim Burt and Zach Earley 6-7 (5), 6-3, 10-2. Second-seeded Gabriel Borelli and Abdul Zachariah lost to Greg Payne and Dave Roussel 6-2, 6-1.
In singles action, top-seeded Ed Ozanne fell to Teal Howard in straight sets 6-2. 6-0, Brandon Patterson lost to Kevinn Hochstrasser 6-1, 6-0 and third-seeded Sebastian Moraga fell to Max Coassin 6-0, 6-1.
Eric Mitchell lost at the fourth slot against Ray Bjorkman 6-1, 6-0 and sophomore John Biba fell to Alex Winnick 6-1, 6-0.
Hamden improved to 6-0 with the victory.

Westies back on track
Roll to victory over Platt Tech

 After falling to Hamden in a tough match a day earlier, theWest Haven boys tennis team was looking to rebound quickly. The Westies were able to do so as they traveled to Milford and defeated Platt Tech 6-1 in rally scoring.
In singles action, top-seeded Ed Ozanne defeated Juan Pinto 8-3, third-seeded Sebastian Moraga beat Rich Smith 8-0, John Biba was an 8-1 victor over Caitlyn Ahern and senior John Dulfo won at the fifth slot with a 8-6 decision over Dom Filipone in one of the two closest matchest of the day. The only loss for West Haven came on the singles side as second-seeded Brandon Patterson lost to Adam Konwerski 8-6.
In doubles play, the Westies swept the two matches. Top-seeded Kevin Murty and William Ashong won over Tom Hallegren and Robert Matt 8-1 and second-seeded Chris Mazzacane and John Matrisciano defeated Brandon Quick and Liz Limauro 8-1.

Hornets cruise past Westies
Branford wins all seven matches

The West Haven boys tennis team fell to 6-4 with a 7-0 loss against Branford Wednesday afternoon. The home match featured many close matches, but, in the end, Branford prevailed in all.
In singles play, Ed Ozanne fell to Peter Berges 6-1, 6-0, second-seeded Brandon Patterson lost to Bill Irwin in a tough match 6-4, 6-4 and third-seeded Sebastian Moraga fell to Anthony DeFrancesco 6-0, 6-0. Fourth-seeded John Biba also fell in straight sets, losing to Paul Habelow 6-1, 6-2 and John Dulfo lost to Bookyo Sur 6-4, 6-0.
West Haven's closest matches were in doubles play. Top-sseded William Ashong and Kevin Murty dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision against Austin Day and Alex Acunzo. West Haven's Chris Mazzacane and John Matrisciano also lost in straight sets to Matt O'Neill and Dan Fortezzo by scores of 6-2 and 6-3.
