High-scoring games are fun to watch as a fan. Maybe not so much for the coaches.

Fighting through several lead changes and rallying late in the season opener, West Haven used an overtime goal by Justin Burbank to help the Westies to a 13-12 overtime victory over Lyman Hall in Wallingford Monday afternoon.

The high-scoring game saw plenty of offense on both sides and saw eight different Westies get in the scoring column.

West Haven senior Dylan Salvatore led the way with three goals and two assists, sophomore Niko Kyle had a goal and four assists, junior Nick Massaro added two goals and two assists, senior Joe Consorte had three goals, and junior Matt Dowd added a pair of goals as well.

Freshman goalie Kevin Moriarty made several outstanding saves to help force the overtime, and finished with 16 overall.

After Dowd evened the game when he stopped and fired a shot in with 2 minutes, 35 seconds remaining in regulation, the Westies won the game in overtime. Dowd's goal came just 15 seconds after Lyman hall took a 12-11 lead.

The Westies fought hard to net the winner in the extra session on a set play. Following a West Haven timeout, Salvatore found Burbank in front and the senior wasted no time firing in the winner at the 1:55 mark of the extra session.

The Westies battled from the start. Trailing 1-0, Kyle evened the game off an assist from Massaro with 10:14 to go in the opening quarter. Lyman Hall scored twice in 20 seconds to regain the lead, but Kyle set up Salvatore's equalizer ten seconds later as the teams went to the half even at seven.

The Westies kept battling and took a 10-9 lead after three quarters of play. Wetmore gave West Haven an 8-7 lead off an assist from Nick Camara with 9:06 left in the third.

After the Trojans evened the game 12 seconds later, West Haven scored the next two goals for a 10-8 advantage.

The Trojans refused to go away, scoring the next three goals for an 11-10 lead, the latter coming with four minutes remaining in regulation.

Massaro scored the equalizer 23 seconds later, and after Lyman Hall took the lead back with 2:50 remaining, Dowd forced the overtime with his goal 15 seconds later.
