Westies fall in Opener
EH tops West Haven 93-48

The West Haven girls track team opened the 2021 season with a 93-48 loss against East Haven at West Haven High Wednesday afternoon. The Westies controlled the relays, but only picked up five first place finishes in the loss.

The 4 × 800 relay of West Haven’s Isabella Fiorillo, Maryangel Cruz, Amanda Gullo, and Kenedi Merola was victorious in 12:21.93, while the 4×100 relay of West Haven’s Mya Flemming, Ouonaejah Bourne, Tanasia Fildalgo, and Tomalyn Williams won in 55.07. West Haven also won the 4 × 400 relay with a team of Williams, Fiorillo, Merola, and Flemmng in 5:02.3.West Haven’s T Fildalgo won the 300 hurdles in 53.1 seconds, while the 800m was won by West Haven’s Fiorollo in 3:01.

WH falls 100-41 despite efforts of Fidalgo

  - The West Haven girls track team fell to Sacred Heart Academy 100-41 at West Haven High Wednesday afternoon.
The Westies were victorious in five events as the 4×100 relay team of (Ouoneajah Bourne, Mya Flemming, Tanasia Fildalgo, and Tomalyn Williams won in 54.6 seconds. Fidalgo won the 100 hurdles in 17.1 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 54.3.

Flemming was victorious in the 100m in 13.2 seconds and Lauren Blake won the 200m in 28.8.


Mercy tops Westies
WH falls 114-30

  - The West Haven girls track team fell to Mercy 114-30 Friday afternoon in West Haven. The Westies had two first place finishes as sophomore Mya Flemming won the long jump at 13 feet, 5 inches, and freshman Alison Frazer was victorious in the triple jump at 27-5.

WH wins opener

  - The West Haven boys track team opened the 2021 season with a 72-63 victory over East Haven Wednesday afternoon at West Haven High. West Haven had nine first place finishes in the meet.
“The entire team brought an outstanding energy to the track today,” West Haven coach Ryan Knight said. “Some of these guys have been waiting almost two years to compete outdoors, so it's no surprise the motivation was there. We'll continue to work relentlessly until the next meet.”

James Weber and Allen Aldrich had solid days as each was part of three victorious events. The 4 × 800 relay of Justin Rodriguez, Aldrich, Raymond Pagan, and Weber was victorious in 9 minutes, 13.2 seconds, while the 4 × 400 relay of Alex Potter, Dante Rodney, Pagan, and Weber won in 4:02.3. The 4 × 100 relay of John McLaughlin, Hugo Castillo-Guerra, Shawn Tarpeh, and Chris Bowen won in 51.9 seconds.
Weber won the 400 m in 54.4 seconds, while Aldrich was victorious in the 800 m in 2:22.9 and the 3200 in 12:58.3.Rodriguez won the 1600m in 5:23.6 and Bowen was victorious in the shot put at 31-3.

Vendrella, Evans star in victory

  - The West Haven boys track team improved to 2-0 with a 61.5 – 58.5 victory over Hamden at Hamden High School.
“In our second meet of the year, everyone stepped up and chipped in,” West Haven coach Ryan Knight said.
Senior Anthony Vendrella won the 110M high hurdles in 16.6 seconds and was also first in the 300M hurdles with a state-qualifying time of 42.7 seconds.
Sophomore Avian Evans was stellar his track and field debut by taking first in three individual events. Evans won the 100M in 11.9 seconds, the long jump at 18’-6”, and high jump at 5’-5”.

  - The West Haven boys track team fell to Notre Dame 110-38 at West Haven High Wednesday afternoon.

Seniors Anthony Vendrella and James Weber posted West Haven’s lone victories as Vendrella won the 110 hurdles in 16.0 seconds and also took home first in the 300 hurdles in 43.0 seconds.

Weber was victorious in the 400m in 54.2 seconds, and also the 800m in 2 minutes, 16.5 seconds.
