- The West Haven girls lacrosse team opened the 2019 season with a 17-5 loss against Sacred Heart Academy Saturday afternoon.

The Sharks took control of the game early, holding a 10-2 lead at the half. Gianna Sliby, Celina Condon, Keegan Riccio, Angela Borelli, and Mackenzie Gardner each scored for the Westies.

Nicole Gaston made nine saves in the loss for the Westies.

Members of the West Haven/Sacred Heart Academy hockey team proved to do some damage for the Sharks as Mia Celentano scored five times, Jianna Cohrs had a goal and an assist, and Francesca Criscuolo also scored for the Sharks. 


Law tops Westies
WH drops 14-5 decision

  - The West Haven girls lacrosse team fell to 0-2 with a 14-5 loss at Jonathan Law Monday afternoon. West Haven struggled to find the back of the net.

Morrrighan Leavitt led the offense with two goals, Celina Condon had a goal and two assists, and Gianna Sliby and Keegan Riccio each scored once. Angela Borelli also added an assist in the loss.
Katie McNellis and Laura Denigan hurt West Haven as McNellis had five goals and three assists, and Denigan added four goals and three assists.
Nicole Gaston made 13 saves in the loss for West Haven


Westies fall to Guilford
Indians post 20-4 win

 - The West Haven girls lacrosse team fell to 0-3 on the season with a 20-4 loss against Guilford Wednesday afternoon.

Keegan Riccio led the Westies with two goals and an assist, Taylor Nowak added a goal and an assist, and Celina Condon scored once. 

Catherine Larrow led Guilford with four goals and an assist, while Maddie Epke and Ava Bucci each scored three times. 


Hamden beats Westies
Green Dragons roll to 18-6 win

 The West Haven girls lacrosse team fell to 0-4 with an 18-6 loss against Hamden Saturday evening at Ken Strong Stadium in West Haven.
Hamden took control of the game early with a 13-3 first half lead.
Keegan Bailey, Cassidy O’Connor and Ally Ferraro led Hamden with five goals each. 
Keegan Riccio led West Haven with three goals, Angela Borelli scored twice, while Chloe Hummel also scored. Taylor Nowak and Gianna Sliby each had one assist. Nicole Gaston made nine saves for West Haven. 


SHA tops Westies
Sharks run to 16-4 victory

  - Sam Lee and Mia Celentano each scored four times as Sacred Heart Academy defeated West Haven 16-4 Monday afternoon in Hamden. With the loss, West Haven fell to 0-5 on the year. 

Keegan Riccio led the Westies with three goals, while Taylor Nowak and Chloe Hummel each added assists. 

​Nicole Gaston made 12 saves in the loss for West Haven. 


WH falls to Foran
Lions post 10-7 win

The West Haven girls lacrosse team fell to 0-6 with a 10-7 loss against Foran Friday evening at Ken Strong Stadium. 
Foran jumped out to a first half lead and never looked back, holding a 7-4 advantage at the break.

WH falls to Mercy
Tigers run to 12-4 victory

 - After an overtime win over Shelton, the West Haven girls lacrosse team was looking to build off the initial victory of the season. Unfortunately for the Westies, that win did no occur. 

Scoring six goals in each half, Mercy rolled to a 12-4 victory over West Haven in Middletown Thursday morning. 

West Haven trailed 6-2 at the half ad never recovered. Angela Borelli led the way with two goals, while Keegan Riccio and Maura Dowd each scored once. 

Cam Antler had four goals to lead Mercy. Bridget Neri, Mia Carbone and Kaylie Zemke each scored twice for the Tigers. 


Amity tops Westies
Spartans prevail 8-3

  - The West Haven girls lacrosse team lost its second straight contest and fell to 1-8 on the year with an 8-3 loss to Amity Tuesday evening. 

Keegan Riccio scored twice and Angela Borelli also tallied for the Westies. Nicole Gaston made 16 saves in the loss for West Haven. 

Riccio put West Haven on the scoreboard for a 1-0 lead with a tally 1:21 into the game. Trailing 2-1, Riccio evened the contest at two. 

That was as  close as the Westies would get to taking the lead as Amity raced out to an 8-2 lead and never looked back.

Angela Borelli scored late for West Haven with the game's final goal.


WH falls to Lyman Hall
Trojans post 6-3 victory

  - The West Haven girls lacrosse team dropped its third straight contest and fell to 1-9 with a 6-3 loss against Lyman Hall in Wallingford Thursday afternoon.

Celina Condon, Olyvia O'Mara, and Taylor Nowak scored for the Westies, while Nicole Gaston made 12 saves in the loss. 

Condon gave West Haven a 1-0 lead in the first half, before Lyman Hall scored twice, including one in the final minute of the opening half for a 2-1 lead. 

The Trojans scored the first three goals of the second half, before O’Mara scored for West Haven to get the Westies within 5-2. Trailing 6-2, Nowak scored in the final two minutes, but West Haven never got closer. . 


WH tops Hamden
Riccio leads Westies to 8-7 win

The West Haven girls lacrosse team snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 2-9 on the year by defeating Hamden 8-7 Monday evening in Hamden. 
Keegan Riccio led the Westies with three goals, Gianna Sliby scored twice, and Chloe Hummel, Celina Condon and Olyvia O'Mara each scored once. 
Nicole Gaston had an assist and made 19 saves in the victory. 
West Haven scored four goals in each half to overcome a 5-4 deficit.
All Ferraro led Hamden with three goals, while Keegan Bailey and Cassidy O’Connor each scored twice.

  - The West Haven girls lacrosse team dropped its fourth decision in five games with a 12-6 loss to Trumbull Thursday evening in West Haven. With the loss, the Westies fell to 2-10 on the year.

In what was a close game early, Trumbull took a 5-3 lead to the half. West Haven could not keep up as Trumbull went on a 7-3 run in the second half to post the victory. 

Celina Condon and Keegan Riccio led the Westies with two goals apiece, with Condon also picking up an assist. Gianna Sliby and Morrighan Leavitt also scored for West Haven.

Olyvia O'Mara and Taylor Nowak picked up assists, and Nicole Gaston made 17 saves in the loss.

Westies fall to Sheehan
Gaston makes 14 saves in loss

  - The West Haven girls lacrosse team fell to 2-11 with its second straight loss, a 15-3 decision against Sheehan, Monday evening at Ken Strong Stadium in West Haven.

The Titans jumped out to a 7-1 lead at the half and never looked back, outscoring the Westies 8-2 in the second half. Sheehan held a 29-10 shot advantage in the game and was led by Carlee Crispens who had four goals.

Lauralton tops Westies
Riccio scores three goals in loss

  - Despite putting up a valiant fight, the West Haven girls lacrosse team fell to Lauralton Hall 12-7 Thursday evening at Ken Strong Stadium in West Haven. With the loss, West Haven fell to 2-12 on the year. 

Keegan Riccio led the Westies with three goals, Mackenzie Gardner scored twice, and Celina Condon added a goal and one assist. Taylor Nowak also scored and Morrighan Leavitt had an assist.  

The Crusaders led 6-4 at the half and went on a 6-3 second half run to pull away for the victory. 

Leah Cogguillo led Lauralton with five goals and three assists, while Katie McLaughlin had two goals and two assists.

Nicole Gaston made 11 saves in the loss.
