Notre Dame posts 6-1 win over WH

The West Haven boys tennis team was looking to get off to a quick start in the 2017 spring season. That start was slowed down by cross-town rival Notre Dame.

Sweeping all four singles matches, the Green Knights topped West Haven 6-1 Monday afternoon in the season opener for both teams.

West Haven's only victory came in doubles play, where top-seeded juniors Albert Dimaisip and Jeremy Tammaro defeated Andrew Kaminsky and Sai Vipparla 6-4, 6-2.

The rest of doubles play saw junior Julian Thomas and sophomore Nash Noble fall to Rory Schreck and Anthony Fangipane 6-2, 6-1. In the third-seeded match, junior Ehsan Sumra and senior Adnan Sumra fell to Tom Minar and Eric Hardy.

In singles play, Notre Dame swept its way to victory. Top-seeded Andrew Forchetti topped West Haven junior James Delgado 6-0, 6-2, while second-seeded sophomore Joseph Delgado lost 6-2, 6-1 against Andre Singer. Third-seeded senior Oreo Olowe lost 6-1, 6-1 against Eric Harkins, and fourth-seeded junior Corey Smith dropped a 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 decision to Oliver Shannon.  


First of the Season 
Westies top Hamden to improve to 1-1

 The West Haven boys tennis team posted its first victory of the season Friday afternoon with a 6-1 decision over Hamden at Painter Park in West Haven. With the win, the Westies improved to 1-1 on the young season.

West Haven’s only loss came in singles play as top-seeded James Delgado fell 7-6, 6-4 against Zak Levine.
Second-seeded Joseph Delgado defeated Akshar Agarwae 6-3, 6-2, third-seeded Oreo Olowe defeated Aji Maharaj 6-2, 6-4, and fourth-seeded Corey Smith posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Alex Porscino.

In doubles play, top-seeded Albert Dimaisip and Jeremy Tammaro defeated Vinh Ung and Tom Pauley 6-4, 6-2. Second-seeded Julian Thomas and Ehsan Sumra posted a 6-1, 6-3 win over Ramon Fille and Chris Hart, and third-seeded Nash Noble and Adnan Sumra posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Rohan Kumer and Umar Chaudhry.

Guilford blanks West Haven

 The West Haven boys tennis team fell to 1-2 with a 7-0 loss at Guilford Monday afternoon. 

In singles action, Guilford's top-seeded Jeffrey Eng defeated James Delgado 7-6 (1), 6-2. Second-seeded Alex Kagan topped Joseph Delgado 6-3, 4-6, 10-3, and third-seeded D.C. Mason defeated Oreo Olowe 6-2, 7-6 (6). West Haven's Corey Smith fell to Gianni Esposito 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles play, Guilford's Sam Inchalik and Noah Horton defeated Jeremy Tammaro and Kent Dimaisip 6-0, 6-3. Second-seeded Michael Hooker and Kyle Dunlop of Guilford topped West Haven's Julian Thomas and Ehsan Sumra 6-1, 6-1.

Win over Platt Tech improves WH to 2-2

 The West Haven boys tennis team improved to 2-2 with a 7-0 victory over Platt Tech Tuesday afternoon at Painter Park in West Haven.

In singles action, top-seeded James Delgado defeated Patricio Panico 6-4, 6-4, second-seeded Joseph Delgado posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory over A.J. Alzoubi, and third-seeded Oreo Olowe won 6-0, 6-0 over Spencer Iamartino. Fourth-seeded Corey Smith also won with a 6-0, 6-2 decision over Louis Hernandez.

Shelton tops Westies
Gaels defeat West Haven 6-1

The West Haven boys tennis team fell to 2-3 with a 6-1 loss against Shelton at West Haven Wednesday morning. 

West Haven's lone victory of the match came in singles play as second -seeded Joseph Delgado topped  Anand Vaish 6-2, 6-1.

Shelton's top-seeded Alex Roenhorst defeated James Delgado 6-1, 6-2, third-seeded Shubham Singh topped West Haven's Oreo Olowe 7-5, 6-2 and fourth-seeded Spencer Gangi beat Corey Smith 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. 
In doubles play, Jeremy Tammaro and Albert Dimaisip fell 6-2, 6-0 against David Ferris and Tyler Werner. Shelton's  Josh Hunter and Jeremy Ferris defeated West Haven's Julian Thomas and Ehsan Sumra 6-2, 3-6 (10-4) and Owen Corbett and Hritish Bargava topped West Haven's Nash Noble and Adnan Sumra 6-3, 4-6 (10-8).

 The West Haven boys tennis team improved to 3-3 with a 7-0 victory over Wilbur Cross Monday afternoon. 

In singles play, top-seeded James Delgado defeated Angelica Rodriguez 6-2, 6-4. Second-seeded  Joseph Delgado topped Charlie Orr 6-1, 6-0, third-seeded Oreo Olowe beat Mark Gurski 6-2, 6-0, and fourth-seeded Corey Smith topped. Sarah Thakur 6-0, 6-0. 

In doubles play, top-seeded Jeremy Tammaro and Albert Dimaisip won over Anli Raymond and Thea Ranelli 6-0, 6-0. Second-seeded Julian Thomas and Ehsan Sumra topped Francelis Matos and Ni Lam 6-1, 6-3, and third-seeded Adnan Sumra and Nash Noble defeated Erika Romero and Darlaney Chanthinith 6-0, 6-0.

 The West Haven boys tennis team won its third consecutive match with a 7-0 victory over Career. With the win, West Haven improved to 4-3 on the year. 

In singles play, top-seeded Oreo Olowe defeated Joe Ostuno 6-3, 6-1, second-seeded Corey Smith was a 7-5, 6-3 winner over Rory Garhart, third-seeded Albert Dimaisip won 6-4, 6-4 over Josh Shampnois, and the fourth-seed was victory by forfeit. 

West Haven won all three doubles matches by forfeit.

Team improves to 5-3 on year

 The West Haven boys tennis team won its third straight match Monday afternoon to improve to 5-3 on the season. The victory came on the road with a 6-1 decision over Sheehan in Wallingford.

In singles play, top-seeded James Delgado defeated Mike Viscardi 6-1 , 6-0, second-seeded Joseph Delgado topped Matt Ottochian 6-2 , 6-0 and third-seeded Oreo Olowe defeated Torey Bianco 6-2 , 6-1. Fourth-seeded Corey Smith won over Tom Neal 6-0 , 6-1.
In doubles action, top-seeded Albert Dimaisip and Jeremy Tammaro won over Josh Dimasi and Aymen Tayoubi 6-3 , 6-3. Sheehan's Mark Amodio and Andrew Saball defeated West Haven's  Julian Thomas and Ehsan Sumra 7-6, 7-5 in a tie breaker 10-8 in the second slot, while Brandon Mino and Nash Noble won in the third slot over Julio Serna and Derek Gilmore 6-0 , 6-0.

The West Haven boys tennis team improved to 6-3 with a 7-0 home victory over Jonathan Law Thursday afternoon.  
In singles play top-seeded James Delgado defeated Shayne McCourt 8-1, second-seeded Joseph Delgado topped Sean Ancheta 8-1, and third-seeded Oreo Olowe beat Kenny Wright 8-0. Fourth-seeded Corey Smith topped Jacob Herr 8-0.

In doubles play, top-seeded Jeremy Tammaro and Albert Dimaisip topped Nick Dostal and Tegan McCourt 8-3 and second-seeded Julian Thomas and Ehsan Sumra beat Ronnie Spangler and Ant Dibenidet 8-6, Third-seeded Nash Noble and Adnan Sumra defeated Andrew Ancheta and Ryan Gorman 8-1.

 The four-match winning streak of the West Haven boys tennis team came to an end Friday afternoon at home with a 5-2 loss against Shelton, the last team to beat the Westies (6-4) before the streak started. 

In singles action Shelton's top seed of Alex Ruenhorst defeated James Delgado 6-0, 6-2. while West Haven's  Joseph Delgado defeated Anand Vaish 6-0, 6-3 in the second slot.

West Haven's third seed of Oreo Olowe defeated Shubham Singh 6-4,  7-5, and Shelton's Spencer Gangi won in the fourth slot over Corey Smith 6-1, 3-6, 10-8. 

In doubles play, Shelton swept all three matches. Top-seeded David Ferris and Tyler Werner defeated West Haven's Albert Dimaisip and Julian Thomas 6-1, 6-2, while second-seeded Josh Hunter and Khyle Nouichio topped West Haven's Nash Noble and Adnan Sumra 6-4, 6-3. Shelton's third seed of Alex Azary and Spencer Hatfield defeated Ehsan Sumra and Brandon Mino of West Haven 6-3, 6-1.

West Haven posts 5-2 win over Trojans

 The West Haven boys tennis team improved to 7-4 with a 5-2 home victory over Lyman Hall Tuesday afternoon. The win was West Haven's fifth in six matches. 

In singles play, top-seeded James Delgado defeated Jack Gaynor 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (6-1), second-seeded Joseph Delgado posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Corey Flynn, and third-seeded Oreo Olowe beat Fred Torres 6-0, 6-1. Fourth-seeded Corey Smith won 7-5, 6-3 over Zach Marchi-Guasp. 

In doubles play, top-seeded Jeremy Tammaro and Albet Dimaisip fell 6-2, 7-5 to Kyle Bonet and Guy Fenn, while second-seeded Julian Thomas and Nash Noble defeated Adam Marchi-Guasp and Neil Patel 7-5, 6-2. Third-seeded Jake Lynn and Connor Jameson of Lyman Hall defeated Anthony Sihaphong and Adnan Sumra in the third-seeded match by scores of 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.

he West Haven boys tennis team won its third consecutive match, topping Platt Tech 7-0 Thursday afternoon. The home victory saw West Haven improve to 9-4 with its seventh victory in eight matches.

In singles play, top-seeded Joseph Delgado defeated Patricio Panico 8-2, second-seeded James Delgado defeated A.J. Alzoubi 8-0 and third-seeded Oreo Olowe posted an 8-0 win over Spencer Iamartino. Fourth-seeded Julian Thomas defeated Louis Hernandez 8-1.

(May 8, 2017) - The West Haven boys tennis team saw its three match winning streak come to an end with a 7-0 loss at Hand-Madison Monday afternoon. With the loss, West Haven fell to 9-5 on the season.
In singles play, top-seeded James Delgado lost to Kyle Fay 6-3, 6-0, second-seeded Joseph Delgado suffered a 6-1, 6-1 loss against Justin Pace, and third-seeded Oreo Olowe lost 6-0, 6-2 against Noah Gulla. Fourth-seeded Corey Smith dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision against Max Thompson.
In doubles play, top-seeded Jeremy Tammaro and Albert Dimaisip lost to Robbie Israel and Alex Bueno 6-0, 6-0, and second-seeded Noah Noble and Julian Thomas fell 6-0, 6-0 against Sam Thorpe and Nick Chieppo. Third-seeded Ehsan Sumra and Anthony Sihaphong fell 6-0, 6-1 against Darby Rogers and Jaime Watkins.

The West Haven boys tennis team fell to 9-6 with its second straight defeat Wednesday afternoon. The 6-1 loss came at the hands of Amity in West Haven.

In singles play, Amity’s Marco Delsanto defeated James Delgado 6-0, 6-2 in the top spot, while second-seeded Joseph Delgado of West Haven defeated Adam Velardi 5-7, 7-5, 10-7. The third seed was won by Amity’s Henry Molot with a 7-5, 6-0 defeat of Oreo Olowe. The fourth slot was won by Amity’s Ira Einbinder over Corey Smith 6-2, 6-0.

 The West Haven boys tennis team dropped its third straight contest Thursday afternoon, falling at home to Fairfield Prep 7-0. With the loss, the Westies dropped to 9-7 on the year.

In singles action, top-seeded Frank Fortunati topped West Haven’s James Delgado 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, second-seeded Chris Hilton defeated Oreo Olowe 6-2, 6-2, and third-seeded Sean Lynch topped Corey Smith 6-3, 6-0. Fourth-seeded John Godino defeated Ehsan Sumra 6-0, 6-1.

 Looking to snap its recent losing streak, the West Haven boys tennis team was unable to do so. Playing Guilford at home, the Westies lost their fourth straight match by a score of 5-2 Friday afternoon in West Haven.

In singles action, Guilford’s top seed of Jeffrey Eng defeated James Delgado 1-6, 7-5, 6-3, second-seeded Joseph Delgado of West Haven defeated Alex Kagan 6-4, 6-4, and third-seeded Oreo Olowe of West Haven topped Eric Masterlarz 6-3, 3-6, 6-0. Guilford’s Mike Hooker beat Corey Smith 6-2, 6-2 in the fourth slot.

The West Haven boys tennis team dropped its fifth straight match and fell to 9-9 on the season with a 4-3 loss against Notre Dame Monday afternoon in West Haven.

In singles action, Notre Dame’s Andrew Forchetti defeated James Delgado 6-1, 6-2 in the top slot, and second-seeded Andre Singer from Notre Dame defeated Joseph Delgado 6-2, 7-6 (7-4). Third-seeded Oreo Olowe topped Notre Dame’s Eric Harkins 6-0, 6-2, and fourth-seeded Oliver Shannon from Notre Dame defeated Corey Smith 3-6, 6-0, 7-6 (7-1).

WH stops losing streak at five with win over Hamden

 The West Haven boys tennis team stopped its five-match losing streak with a 6-1 victory over Hamden Wednesday afternoon. With the win, West Haven improved to 10-9 on the season.

In singles play, top-seeded James Delgado posted a 6-2, 7-6 win over Zak Levine, second-seeded Joseph Delgado defeated Vinh Ung 6-0, 6-0, and third-seeded Oreo Olowe posted a 6-3, 6-2 victpry over Avi Mahajen. Fourth-seeded Corey Smith won 6-4, 6-2 over Umer Chaudrhay. 

In doubles action, top-seeded Jeremy Tammaro and Albert Dimaisip won 6-4, 6-3 over Akshar Agalhar and Matt Pauley, while second-seeded Julian Thomas and Nash Noble defeated Tom Pauley and Abhishek Gorti 6-2, 6-3.  Third-seeded Brandon Mino and Ehsan Sumra fell 7-5, 6-4 against Nick Neils and Justin Malagar.
