Boys sweep, girls swept in season opener

 - The West Haven boys and girls cross country teams opened the 2020 season in Milford Friday afternoon against Law, East Haven, and Platt Tech.

The boys posted three victories, topping Law 25-30, East Haven 15-47, and Platt Tech 17-45.  For the Westies, the top runners were senior Allen Aldrich, who was second overall in 19 minutes, 9 seconds, and senior James Weber, who finished in 20:12. Junior Alex Potter was right behind in 20:22.

The girls dropped all three, losing 15-50 to Law, East Haven, and Platt Tech. Senior Kenedi Merola finished in 11th place with a personal best of 25:09, while sophomore Amanda Gullo was next on the Westies in 29:04. Sophomore Maryangel Cruz rounded out the top three for West Haven in 29:24.


Guilford sweeps Westies
Girls see personal bests

 - The West Haven boys and girls cross country teams ran at Guilford Wednesday afternoon and each were defeated 15-50 by Guilford.

The top runners for the boys were senior Allen Aldrich in 19 minutes, 19 seconds, senior James Weber in 19:29 and junior Justin Rodriguez with a personal best of 19:47.
For the girls, senior Kenedi Merola finished in 23:20, sophomore Amanda Gullo finished in 25:28, and Mary angel Cruz ran in 27:05. Each time was a personal best for all three girls.

 - The West Haven boys cross country team ran at Shelton Wednesday, losing to Shelton and Amity by the scores of 15-50. The top runners for West Haven were junior Justin Rodriguez in 19 minutes, 34 seconds, junior Alex Potter in 19:47, and senior Allen Aldrich in 20:10.
The West Haven girls cross country team did not run against Shelton, but the girls ran at Amity on Thursday, falling 15-30. The top runners for West Haven were sophomore Amanda Gullo in 25:33, senior Kenedi Merola in 26:10, and sophomore Maryangel Cruz in 28 :30.West Haven’s Amanda Gullo has seen her time improve by four minutes in three weeks.

he West Haven boys cross country team ran at Milford on Wednesday. The boys fell to Notre Dame-West Haven 15-50, and West Haven topped Hillhouse 15-50.
The top runners for the Westies were junior Justin Rodriguez in 19 minutes, 24 seconds,  senior Allen Aldrich in 19:38, and senior Ray pagan in 19:39.
The girls lost to both Lauralton Hall and Hillhouse by identical 15-50 scores. The top runners for the girls were senior Kenedi Merola in 25:42, sophomore Amanda Gullo in 26:52 and sophomore Maryangel Cruz in 28:10.

WH boys top Cross and Foran while girls fall

(October 21, 2020) - The West Haven boys cross country team traveled to New Haven Wednesday, running against Wilbur Cross and Foran.
The Westies defeated Cross 25-30 and Foran 20-35. The Westies now stand at 4-0 in the division.

The top runners for West Haven were seniors James Weber in 18 minutes, 53 seconds and Allen Aldrich in 18:55, and junior Justin Rodriguez in 19:00.  
The girls also traveled to New Haven and fell to Wilbur Cross and Foran by identical 15-50 scores. The top runners for West Haven were sophomores Amanda Gullo in 25:24 and Maryangel Cruz in 27:32, and senior Alex Kendall in 27:52.

History Made
Boys take home program's 1st SCC Division title

 - The West Haven boys cross country team was a part of team history Wednesday afternoon, taking home the program’s first Southern Connecticut Conference Division title in New Haven. With 27 points in Division C, West Haven edged Cross (30), while Platt Tech was third.

Senior Allen Aldrich was West Haven’s top runner and third overall in 18 minutes, 58 seconds, while junior Justin Rodriguez was fourth overall in 19:05.
The Westies had six runners place in the top ten as senior James Weber was fifth in 19:06, junior Alex Potter was seventh in 19:21, junior Eric Owen was eighth in 19:37, and sophomore Khai Outhavong was tenth in 20:01.
