Westies top NDWH in Opener
West Haven posts 96-86 victory

 -  The West Haven boys swimming team opened the season with a 96-86 victory over cross-town rival Notre Dame Friday evening at West Haven High. The Westies had six first place finishes. The 200 yard medley relay team of Bryan Barrington, Christopher D'Inzeo, Luis Lopez, and Shane Taulty won in 1 minute, 54.93 seconds, while the 50 yard freestyle was won by Isaac Gorske in 24.17 seconds.
The 100 yard butterfly was taken home by Jacob Eairheart in 1:05.29, the 100 yard freestyle was won by  D'Inzeo in 58.20, while the 200 yard freestyle relay was won by West Haven with a team of Gorske, Lopez, Christopher Olsen, Mustansir Jamalee in 1:43.47. D'Inzeo won the 100 yard backstroke in 1:09.31.
West Haven had seven second place finishes as well. John Barrington was second in the 200 yard freestyle in 2:30.75, the 200 yard IM saw Lopez second in 2:35.00, while Barrington was second in the 50 yard freestyle 25.19 seconds.
Gorske was second in the 100 yard freestyle in 58.14 seconds, Barrington placed second in the 500 yard freestyle in 6:19.08, and the 100 yard backstroke had Taulty second in 1:13.21. Lopez also placed second in the 100 yard breastroke in 1:18.76.


Shelton tops Westies
West Haven falls to Gaels 103-65

 -  The West Haven/Platt Tech boys swim team fell to Shelton on the road Friday afternoon 103-65. Issac Gorske won the 50 freestyle in 23.90 seconds and Christopher D’Inzeo was first in the 100 backstroke in 1 minute, 8.72 seconds.
“The Shelton meet was a challenge for West Haven/Platt with many of our swimmers sick or away on vacation, but the seniors and captains from West Haven and Platt stepped up to the challenge and swam their hardest with Westie Pride,” West Haven coach Kevin Dickson said. “The team will be back together and ready for our next meet this Friday.”
The Westies had five second place finishes. The 200 medley relay team of Brendon Paucar, D'Inzeo, Jacob Eairheart, and Shane Taulty was second in 2:04.08, while Eairheart was second in the 200 IM in 2:35.64.
The 500 freestyle saw Anthony Castillo place second in 6:16.30, while the 200 freestyle relay of Gorske, Castillo, Christopher Olsen, and Mustansir Jamalee was second in 1:49.35. The 400 freestyle relay team of Eairheart, Jamalee, D'Inzeo, and Gorske also placed second in 4:02.43.


Xavier tops Westies
West Haven falls to Gaels 103-65

- The West Haven boys swimming team fell to Xavier Friday evening. Xavier came in and placed in the top three in every individual event except for the 200 IM and breaststroke. 
Luis Lopez scored third in 2 minutes, 27.04 seconds in the 200 IM and third with a 1:13.96 in the breaststroke. Issac Gorske was third in the 50 free in 24.45 seconds and third in the 100 free with a 57.41.  

Chris D'Inzeo scored third in the 100 Butterfly in 1:08.89.West Haven was third in the 200 medley relay with a team of Shane Taulty, D'Inzeo, Lopez, and Christopher Olsen in 2:03.36.


Westies swim past Sacred Heart 
West Haven posts 88-84 victory

- The West Haven boys swim team used solid team work to pull out an 88-84 victory over Sacred Heart Tuesday evening at West Haven High. The Westies had seven first place finishes and eight second place finishes.
The 200 yard medley relay team of Bryan Barrington, Christopher D'Inzeo, Luis Lopez, and Shane Taulty won in 1 minute, 58.01 seconds, while the 200 yard free relay team of Issac Gorske, Lopez, Anthony Castillo, and Mustansir Jamalee won in 1:47.33.
Luis Lopez was victorious in the 200 yard IM in 2:21.50, while the 50 yard free was won by Gorske in 23.59 seconds. Vincent Militrano was victorious in the diving event with 135.75 points, and Gorske won the 100 yard free in 56.02 seconds. The 100 yard breaststroke was won by D'Inzeo in 1:10.98.
"After two tough meets, our team was all back together, West Haven coach Kevin Dickson said. “With strong teamwork, comes victory. Thank you for the tough competition Sacred Heart."
West Haven also had eight second place finishes. The 400 yard free relay of Bryan Barrington, John Barrington, D'Inzeo, and Shane Taulty was second in 4:16.77, while the 200 yard free had a second place finish with Mustansir Jamalee in 2:26.42.
Bryan Barrington was second in the 50 yard free in 25.68, the 1 M diving had Youssef Ossama with 118.20 points, and the 100 yard butterfly saw Taulty second in 1:07.17. D’Inzeo was second in the 100 yard free in 56.43, Anthony Castillo was second in the 500 yard free in 6:21.20.  The 100 breaststroke saw Lopez place second in 1:12.32.


Hamden tops Westies

 - The West Haven boys swimming team fell to Hamden 98-83 Tuesday evening in West Haven.
“It was a very close meet tonight,” West Haven coach Kevin Dickson said. “We fought up to the last race. We were handicapped by some sick swimmers, but they were still there to cheer on their team.”
West Haven had four first place finishes in the loss. Issac Gorske won the 50 free in 24.2 seconds, and the 100 free in 55.35 seconds. The 200 free relay team won in 1:45.07 with a team of seniors Gorske, Luis Lopez, Christopher Olsen, and sophomore Mustansir Jamalee.
The 400 free relay team won in 4:00.56 with a team of junior Bryan Barrington, senior Christopher D'Inzeo, senior Jacob Eairheart, and Gorske.
The Westies had six second place finishes as well. The 200 medley relay team was second in 1:59.08 with a team of Barrington, D'Inzeo, Lopez, and Olsen. Lopez placed second in the 200 IM in 2:26.86, and the 100 breast in 1:14.89.
Vincent Militrano was second in the 1M diving with 86.65 points, Eairheart was second in the 100 fly in 1:06.37, and D'Inzeo was second in the 100 back in 1:06.73.


Westies fall to Foran/Law 
West Haven drops 91-87 decision

 The West Haven boys swimming team fell to Foran/Law 91-87 in Milford Tuesday afternoon.
“It was a strong meet full of determination from both teams, with best times for West Haven High School in the IM and 50 free splits from the relay, as well as Anthony Castillo going under six minutes in the 500 free,” West Haven coach Kevin Dickson said.
The Westies had two first place finishes as Luis Lopez won the 100 breast in 1 minute, 13.28 seconds, and the 400 free relay of Issac Gorske, Bryan Barrington, Chris D'Inzeo, and Jacob Eairheart took home the top spot in 3:55.61.
West Haven had nine second place finishes as well. The 200 medley relay of Barrington, D'Inzeo, Lopez, and Anthony Castillo finished in 1:57.96, and the 200 free relay of Gorske, Lopez, Castillo, and Mustansir Jamalee placed second as well.
Lopez was second in the 200 individual medley in 2:23.01, Gorske placed second in the 50 Free in 24.07 seconds, and the 100 free in 56.51 seconds.The 1 meter diving saw Ossama Abdelhamid place second with 107.55 points, while the 100 fly had Eairheart in 1:06.04. Castillo was second in the 500 free in 5:59.71, and the 100 back had D'Inzeo second in 1:07.87.


Westies fall to Greater New Haven 
West Haven drops 102-80 decision

 - The West Haven boys swimming team fell to Greater New Haven 102-80 Friday evening. The Westies had four first place finishes in the meet. 
The 200 free relay won in 1 minute, 43.66 seconds with a team of Issac Gorske, Chris D'Inzeo, John Barrington, and Luis Lopez. The 100 back was won in 1:13.80 by John Barrington, and the 
100 breast was won in 1:10.25 by D'Inzeo.
The 400 free relay posted a win in 4:29.47 with a team of Luis Lopez, Anthony Castillo, Bradford Hatjopoulos, and Robert Vets.
"We went into this meet knowing that they were a much stronger team, so many of our swimmers swam in other events that they wanted to make best times for states," West Haven coach Kevin Dickson said. "Although we lost, everyone swam best times, and it was a victory within the team. Our divers were back into form and had great performances."
The team had six second place finishes as the 50 free saw Gorske in 24.33, while the 100 free had Bryan Barrington second in 55.77.
The 200 free relay finished second in 2:01.56 with a team of Brandon Paucar, Vets, Liam Weir, and Brian Carew. 
The 100 back with Paucar was second in 1:18.32, Vets was second in the 100 breast in 1:26.83, and the 400 free relay was second in 4:40.37 with a team of Angel Perez, Obyda Charachfi, Walter Dalton, Max Leatherman.


Westies top Sheehan 
West Haven posts 102-84 victory

- The West Haven boys swimming team topped Sheehan 102-84 in Wallingford Monday evening. The Westies had five first place finishes and eight second place finishes in the victory.
“This was an intense meet from beginning to end,” West Haven coach Kevin Dickson said. “The lead went back and forth every event until the 100 yard backstroke when West Haven pulled in front. We received strong efforts from every swimmer.”
The 200 medley relay team of John Barrington, Chris D'Inzeo, Luis Lopez, and Issac Gorske won in 1 minute, 54.73 seconds. The 500 free was won by Anthony Castillo in 6:01.42, the 100 Back was won by D'Inzeo in 1:07.56, Lopez took home the 100 breast in 1:13.27, and the 400 free relay of Bryan Barrington, John Barrington, D'Inzeo, and Anthony Castillo won in 3:58.73.
Lopez was second in the 200 individual medley in 2:24.72, Gorske placed second in the 50 free in 24.21, while the 100 fly saw Jacob Eairheart second in 1:06.93.Gorske was the runner-up in the 100 free in 55.46, while Bryan Barrington followed suit in the 500 free in 6:05.56. The 200 free relay team of Gorske, Lopez, Castillo, and Mustansir Jamalee placed second in 1:43.45, while the 100 back saw Brandon Paucar second in 1:14.13, and the 100 breast had Brendan Carew second in 1:21.73.


Lyman Hall/Coginchaug nips Westies

 - The West Haven boys swimming team fell to Lyman Hall/Coginchaug 96-89 Thursday evening at West Haven High. The Westies had six first place finishes and five second place positions in the close loss.
“This was another intense match of equal teams,” West Haven coach Kevin Dickson said. “Lyman Hall/Coginchaug had the stronger divers. West Haven/Platt Tech had the stronger sprinters, but the victory of the meet went to the team that could win the 200 freestyle relay, and unfortunately it was not West Haven/Platt Tech.  They all swam hard with best times.  Congratulations Lyman Hall/Coginchaug.”
West Haven’s first place finishes came in the 50 freestyle in 24.28 seconds by Issac Gorske, and also the 100 freestyle in 55.28, also by Gorske. The 100 butterfly was won in 1:04.03 by Jacob Eairheart, while the 100 breast was won in 1:08.52 by Christopher D'Inzeo.
The 200 medley relay won in 1:53.76 with a team of Bryan Barrington, D'Inzeo, Luis Lopez, and Gorske. The 400 free relay was victorious in 4:00.63 with a team of Bryan Barrington, John Barrington, D'Inzeo, and Anthony Castillo.
West Haven’s second place finishes came from the 200 freestyle with D'Inzeo in 2:03.88, while the 200 yard IM had Luis Lopez second in 2:20.84. Anthony Castillo was second in the 500 freestyle in 5:55.11, John Barrington placed second in the 100 back in 1:08.60, and the 200 free relay was second in 1:43.41 with a team of Gorske, Youssef Ossama, Mustansir Jamalee, and Lopez.


Westies Impress in SCC's
West Haven sets team record in 200 free relay

- The West Haven boys swim team had an impressive showing at the Southern Connecticut Conference finals. The team had eight best times.
Also, the Westies had two swimmers qualify for the state tournament as Chris D’Inzeo did so in the 100 breast and Issac Gorske did so in the 50 free.
The team also posted a new team record in the 200 free relay as Gorske, Luis Lopez, Bryan Barrington, and D’Inzeo finished in 1 minute, 35.65 seconds.
