WH YOUTH HOCKEY 2023

(November 19, 2023) - The West Haven Mite A hockey team visited a challenging New Canaan A team. The Westies put up a strong fight with multiple shots on net by Landon Alling, Brayden Gagliardi, Gabriella Jenei, Quinn Uscilla and Jack Weiss with JP Beebe, Austin Picard and Maddie Bruder sneaking the puck by New Canaan’s goalie. Ava Healy played solid defense in from of Finn McLaughlin, who was in the net for the Westies.
The Westies continued their schedule against the Wonderland A team. Healy was in goal for West Haven and proved a tough challenge for Wonderland, making many impressive saves between the posts. Weiss also made a solid showing for West Haven.
The Westies then played host to the Wonderland A1 team. Helping the Mite A team on offense and putting the puck in the net were Weiss, Gagliardi, Uscilla, and Beebe.  Alling, Jenei, Picard and Healy did a good job stopping multiple attacks in front of McLaughlin in goal.
The West Haven Mite C Blue hockey team hosted Wallingford Mite C at Bennett Rink. Kaden Kendall was in net for the Blue Devils, making many amazing saves during the matchup. Multiple goals were scored by Mena Paredes, with additional goals scored by Chloe Kendall, Connor Gaul and Joseph Gaul.
Zander Cianciullo also had shots on net and great defense was displayed by Marco Camera.
The West Haven U18 Midget hockey team ended its half season with a 5-5 tie against Hamden. Trailing 1-0, West Haven evened the game at one when Mike Madera scored off an assist from Haygen Axelrod with eight minutes left in the first period.
Cam Delvecchio gave the Westies a 2-1 lead off assists from Eli Gregory and Jayden Spreyer, before Gregory scored 1:10 later off an assist from Spreyer for a 3-1 advantage.

With the game even at three in the second period, Yousaf Ullah scored for a 4-3 lead. J.J. Alling scored the final West Haven goal off an assist from Axelrod.

(November 26, 2023) - The West Haven Mite B hockey team hosted East Haven at home on Saturday. The Westies got on the board early with a goal from Callen Tagliatela, assisted by Maddy Demayo.Parker Vitelli, Blake Bova, and Luke Salkins also scored for West Haven. Dean Azano was in net and turned away many Yellowjackets shots. Rylan Jacob and Darcy Jacob also played strong games for the Westies.

(December 3, 2023) - The West Haven Mite B hockey team had a busy weekend, with three games on the ledger. In each game, Blake Bova led the Westies with a tremendous performance in net.
Opening the weekend at home against Wonderland Wizard White, the Westies were paced offensively by Luke Salkins and Parker Vitelli. Defensively, Rylan Jacob and Callen Tagliatela helped turn away the Wonderland attack. 
Early Sunday, the Mite B's traveled to Milford to take on the Southern Stars A1 White. With Bova playing another strong game, the Westies denied the Southern attack throughout the entirety of the contest. Led by a scoring barrage from Salkins, the Westie sticks were on fire. Also scoring were Maddie Demayo, Tagliatela, Vitelli, and Dean Azano. Darcy Jacob contributed to the Westie performance with hustle and energy on both ends of the ice. 
Later on Sunday, the Westie Mite B's hit the road again to take on Greater New Haven Warriors A1 at the Northford Ice Pavilion. In what was an intense game, the Westies were again led by Bova in goal. Chase Liston and Demayo turned in tremendous efforts to limit the Warrior offense. Azano provided scoring, while Tagliatela and Darcy Jacob and Rylan Jacob each helped to set up multiple shots on net for the Westies. 
The West Haven Mite C Blue hockey team hosted CT Northern Lights U8 Maroon at Bennett Rink. Kaden Kendall was in net for the Blue Devils and made many great saves during the matchup.Multiple goals were scored by Chloe Kendall, with another goal from Nico Camera, his first of the season. Assists came from Marco Camera and Mena Paredes, and multiple shots on net were made by Paredes, Connor Gaul and Joseph Gaul.

(December 10, 2023) - The West Haven Mite A hockey team hosted Mid Fairfield Gold A. The Westies fought hard on both ends. Maddy Bruder and Jack Weiss led the scoring with a pair of goals each. Gabriella Jenei, Landon Alling, Brayden Gagliardi and JP Beebe also got on the scoreboard with assists from Weiss, Jenei and Quinn Uscilla. 
On Sunday, the Westies fought hard against the West Hartford Mite A squad. Weiss had another strong game on offense, netting another two goals and Ava Healy, Gagliardi, Alling and Uscilla also got on the scoreboard.  Uscilla had a pair of assists, and Jenei and Weiss also assisted in the scoring.  Bruder had a strong game in net.
The West Haven Mite B hockey team had an action-packed weekend, with three games on the schedule. The first game came at home against New Canaan Winter Club Red. In a scoring-filled game, Luke Salkins led the way with seven goals. Blake Bova, Chase Liston, Parker Vitelli, and Dean Azano also lit the lamp for the Blue Devils. Maddy Demayo shined in net, making many tremendous saves. 
Later in the day, the Blue Devils traveled to Northford to take on the Shoreline Sharks. In a competitive matchup, Salkins and Liston again provided offense, while Rylan Jacob and Callen Tagliatela provided strong defense in front of goalie Parker Vitelli.To cap off the weekend, the Westies hit the road on Sunday, again traveling to Northford. In what was a close game, Salkins and Bova led the Blue Devil scoring attack. Chase Liston played a strong game in net. In front of Liston, Darcy Jacob and Demayo played strong defense. Linemates Tagliatela and Azano played with great energy on both ends of the ice, helping to turn away the Bulldog attack.

(December 31, 2023) - The West Haven Mite A hockey team traveled to Hamden last Saturday and did a great job moving the puck. JP Beebe and Jack Weiss led the scoring with two goals each, and Brayden Gagliardi, Gabriella Jenei, Maddy Bruder and Landon Alling also got on the scoreboard.
Quinn Uscilla and Austin Picard played great on both ends of the ice, with Uscilla contributing a pair of assists, and Picard also assisting on the goals. Ava Healy was a force between the posts.
The Westies then took on Rhode Island in the Newport Whalers Christmas Tournament, making it to the championship game.
On Wednesday, the Westies defeated the SeaCoast Spartans 2015 Select in a come from behind win. Gagliardi, Weiss and Alling did most of the scoring on assists from Uscilla and Picard.  Healy also got on the scoreboard. Two of Gagliardi’s four goals came in the last 30 seconds to clinch the win. 
The Westies played the Newport Whalers to a tie. Jenei had a hat trick, and Uscilla, Gagliardi and Weiss also scored. Moriah Frost was clutch in goal and Beebe was a force on defense.
West Haven Mite A then handily defeated the Central Rhode Island Knights Mite A.  The scoring was spread around with multiple Westies contributing, including Bruder, Picard, Gagliardi, Jenei and Weiss.  Frost was once again unstoppable in goal.
On Friday, West Haven faced a strong Warwick Waves Mite A team in the championship game. The Westies had multiple shots on goal by Uscilla, Jenei, Gagliardi, Weiss, Alling and Picard, but couldn’t convert.  Despite goals by Bruder and Picard, and strong defense by Beebe and Weiss, the Westies fell short.
The West Haven Mite B hockey team traveled to Rhode Island for the Newport Christmas Classic Tournament. In the first game, the Westies took on Barnstable 8u from Barnstable, MA.
Leading the offensive effort were Blake Bova, Chase Liston, and Luke Salkins. Callen Tagliatela played a strong game in net, making numerous clutch saves during the contest.
Maddy Demayo provided tough defense for the Westies, helping to turn away the Barnstable attack throughout the entire game. Parker Vitelli played a great game as well, making good plays on both ends of the ice. 
In the second game, the Mite B's battled against the New Jersey Colonials of Morristown, NJ. In what was an intense game, the Westies were led by Rylan Jacob in net.
Bova, Salkins, and Liston again turned in strong offensive games, with each lighting the lamp. Dean Azano also scored, while Tagliatela played with great hustle in the contest and helped set up multiple shots for Azano and Liston. 
In the third game, the Westies took on the Newport Whalers Blue. The Westie sticks were on fire and Vitelli also was lights out in goal. Azano, Bova, Salkins, and Liston each scored multiple goals.
Darcy Jacob lit the lamp as well for her first goal of the season. Rylan Jacob added an additional goal as a result of battling in front of the net, and Tagliatela also scored an impressive goal, hammering home a rebound in the Westie victory. 
Returning home Saturday, the Westies hosted Ridgefield Mite B. In what was a spirited effort by the Westies, Liston got the Westies on the board with an early goal. Salkins and Azano scored additional goals. Tagliatela and Bova each turned in multiple shots on net, while also making several crisp passes to set up additional shots.Darcy Jacob was in net and made many saves to limit the Ridgefield attack. Demayo contributed strong defense for the entire game.

(January 7, 2024) - The West Haven Mite A hockey team welcomed the Avon Mite A team with a scoring bonanza. Austin Picard was hard to stop, scoring multiple goals, while Brayden Gagliardi, Gabriella Jenei and JP Beebe also scored with assists from Jack Weiss, Beebe, and Quinn Uscilla.
On the other end, Maddy Bruder and Landon Alling played solid defense in front of Ava Healy in goal.
The Westies continued their great play against Mid Fairfield 2015. In goal, Healy kept her hot streak going, shutting down multiple Mid Fairfield shots. 
Helping Healy with some solid defense and great puck movement were Beebe and Picard, who continued to be a force on both ends of the ice.
Bruder turned her good defense into offense, scoring two goals, one on an assist from Jenei. Jenei also put one in the back of the net on a breakaway.Uscilla assisted a Gagliardi goal and also contributed on the scoreboard, by converting solid defense into a breakaway goal. Alling scored by crashing the net following behind a slippery Weiss. Every Westie was critical in this great game.

On Saturday, the West Haven Mite B hockey team hosted Wonderland 8u Blue at Bennett Rink. In a high-scoring affair, Chase Liston paced the Westies with five goals, Blake Bova and Luka Salkins each contributed multiple goals, while Maddie Demayo tallied an additional goal with hard work in front of the net.Dean Azano played a strong game in goal for the Westies, turning away many Wonderland shots. Rylan Jacob and Parker Vitelli played strong defense, with Vitelli delivering multiple crisp passes to set up his teammates’ goals.

(January 14, 2024) - The West Haven Mite B Blue Devils played host to Hamden Mite B on Saturday at Bennett Rink. In a close game, the Westie offense was led by scoring from Dean Azano and Blake Bova. Luke Salkins played a strong game in goal, making several stellar saves. 
The Westies traveled to Newington on Sunday to take on Central 8U B. In another closely played contest, Parker Vitelli and Azano provided scoring.
Rylan Jacob made multiple hustle plays on both ends of the ice, helping to limit the Central attack. Salkins was again in net for the Westies, turning away multiple shots on the day.

(January 21, 2024) - The West Haven Mite B hockey team had a busy weekend, playing three games. The Westies hosted Greater New Haven A1 at Bennett Rink and were led by an impressive performance in net by Maddie Demayo. Providing scoring for the Westies were Dean Azano, Luke Salkins, and Chase Liston. 
Later in the day, the Westies traveled to South Norwalk to take on Mid Fairfield Black. With Demayo turning in another stellar performance, the Mid Fairfield attack was limited all game.
Offensively, the Westies were led by a hat trick from Azano and goals from Liston and Salkins. 
The Westies traveled to the Milford Ice Pavilion to take on the Southern Stars on Sunday morning. In an offensive flurry, Blake Bova, Liston, Salkins, and Parker Vitelli each scored multiple goals.
Callen Tagliatela and Darcy Jacob helped set up numerous goals with crisp passes. Kaden Kendall turned in a solid performance in net to thwart the Southern offense. 
The West Haven Mite C White and Blue hockey teams joined forces and played Wallingford Mite C. Delaney Webb was in net for the Blue Devils and made many great saves during the matchup.
Multiple goals were scored by Connor Gaul, and another goal was scored by SJ Bartley. In addition, shots on goal were contributed by Joey Gaul, Sebastian Malangone, Mila Malangone and Chloe Kendall.
On Sunday, the Blue Devils traveled to Bridgeport to play the Wonderland Wizards House Program. Kaden Kendall was in goal and made many great saves in the away matchup.Multiple goals were scored by Connor Gaul, with another goal scored by Joey Gaul. Shots on net were also made by Wyatt Valentine, Marco Camera, Addie Bova, Mena Paredes and Bartley.

(January 28, 2024) - The West Haven Mite A hockey team hosted a strong Darien A team. Quinn Uscilla fought hard between the posts, making a number of acrobatic saves. The Westies saw offense from Jack Weiss and Brayden Gagliardi, with assists from Landon Alling and Austin Picard.
The Westies then traveled to Milford, coming out on top of a fiery Southern Stars team. Weiss was clutch in goal, and leading a hot offense for West Haven were Alling, Gagliardi, Picard and Uscilla.
Gabriella Jenei, Maddy Bruder and JP Beebe assisted on the goals, while Ava Healy played tough defense.
West Haven continued its great play this week when West Hartford Mite A visited the Blue Devils. Gagliardi was a force in net, and Weiss, Alling and Picard got on the scoreboard with multiple goals each.  Uscilla and Beebe had assists in the game.
The West Haven Mite B hockey team played a doubleheader on Saturday with Avon 8U B was first at Bennett Rink. Led by a strong defensive performance from Parker Vitelli, the Westies limited Avon’s attack all game.
Kaden Kendall was in net and turned away several shots in the contest. Scoring for the Westies were Blake Bova, Chase Liston, and Luke Salkins. 
The second game of the day saw the Westies travel south to Total Mortgage Arena to take on the Southern Stars A1 of Milford. In an offensive explosion, Salkins, Vitelli, Liston, Bova, Chloe Kendall, and Maddie Demayo all lit the lamp for the Westies.
Kendall again led the Westies in net with Darcy Jacob and Callen Tagliatela providing strong defense in front. 
The West Haven Mite C Blue hockey team traveled to Choate to take on Wallingford Mite C. Kaden Kendall was in goal and made a significant number of amazing saves during the matchup.Multiple goals were scored by Mena Paredes, and another goal was scored by Chloe Kendall. Shots on net were also contributed by Joey Gaul, Connor Gaul, and Nico Camera, while excellent defense was displayed by both Marco Camera and Nico Camera.

(February 4, 2024) - The West Haven Mite A hockey team continued its great play when West Hartford Mite A visited the Blue Devils. Brayden Gagliardi was a force in net. Jack Weiss, Landon Alling and Austin Picard got on the scoreboard with multiple goals each on assists from Quinn Uscilla and JP Beebe.
The Westies faced a tough Mid-Fairfield 2015 team. Ava Healy put out a lot of fires in net, but the Westies still fell short.
Multiple shots on goal taken by Alling, Gagliardi, Uscilla and Weiss were denied until Picard and Beebe found the back of the net, scoring a goal each.
The Westies closed out the weekend with a great game against host Avon Mite A. Gagliardi, Picard, and Weiss had multiple goals, and Alling and Uscilla also got on the scoreboard for a hot West Haven team.
Assisting the scoring were Alling, Picard, Weiss, and Uscilla. Gabriella Jenei and Healy fought hard on both ends, Bruder stepped up in goal and made a number of great saves.
The West Haven Mite B hockey team opened up its February schedule with a home game against South Windsor 8u B.
In what was a close game, the Westies were led by Rylan Jacob in net. Jacob helped limit the South Windsor attack, especially in the second period.
The West Haven offense was led by goals from Callen Tagliatela, Blake Bova, and Luke Salkins. Maddie Demayo turned in a strong defensive effort. 
To cap the weekend, the Westie B’s traveled to Avon Old Farms to take on Avon Mite B. In another closely played game, the Westies saw Parker Vitelli, Chase Liston, Bova, and Salkins each find the back of the net.
Jacob again led the Westies in net, putting together another fine effort. Dean Azano created several scoring chances for West Haven with his strong defensive play and passing. 
The West Haven Mite C Blue and White hockey teams combined forces and played Hamden Mite B at Bennett Rink.
Delaney Webb was in net for the first half, and Kaden Kendall closed out the game for the second half, with both goalies making great saves during the matchup. Sebastian Malangone scored a goal for the Blue Devils, and additional shots on net were contributed by Mena Paredes, Joey Gaul, Connor Gaul, Chloe Kendall and Isabella Rasile.
West Haven Mite C Blue then traveled to Milford to take on the Milford Mudhounds. Webb made many remarkable saves during the matchup.

Multiple goals were scored were scored by Paredes, Connor Gaul and Joey Gaul, while Zander Cianciullo and Addie Bova each scored a goal.

(February 11, 2024) - The West Haven Mite C Blue and White teams combined forces and took on the Milford Mudhounds at Total Mortgage Arena. In net for the first half of the game was Kaden Kendall, and Addie Bova was in between the pipes for the second period, with both making incredible saves.
Multiple goals were scored by Chloe Kendall, Mena Paredes and Delaney Webb, with a goal each also from Connor Gaul and Joey Gaul. Marco Camera and Nicole Camera also had shots on goal.
Both Mite C teams again combined forces and traveled to New Canaan to take on New Canaan Mite C. Kaden Kendall was in net again for Sunday's matchup, making record breaking saves for the Blue Devils. Multiple goals were scored by Connor Gaul, one of which was assisted by Chloe Kendall. Shots on net were also contributed by Paredes, Chloe Kendall, Bova and Marco Camera.
Joey Gaul, Chloe Kendall and Nico Camera all scored in the shootout at the conclusion of the game.

(February 18, 2024) - The West Haven Mite A hockey team hosted South Windsor A and the Westies got on the scoreboard early and often with multiple goals by Landon Alling, Maddy Bruder and Austin Picard.
Jack Weiss and Brayden Gagliardi also scored, Quinn Uscilla contributed with multiple assists, and Gagliardi and Ava Healy had an assist each.  JP Beebe debuted in goal. 
West Haven then took on a disciplined Darien team. The Westies proved a tough opponent, putting up a number of goals by Alling, Gagliardi, Picard and Weiss. Uscilla, again assisted on multiple goals. Contributing defensively was Healy and Bruder between the posts.
The Westies played a pair of games against Yale Mite A. Gagliardi led the offensive at home, while Picard and Uscilla scored multiple goals. Alling, Beebe, Healy and Weiss got on the scoreboard as well, and Bruder protected the West Haven net.
West Haven traveled to Yale where multiple shots on goal by Alling, Picard, Gagliardi and Bruder only resulted in two Weiss goals. Picard and Uscilla assisted, and Beebe made a number of saves in goal.
The West Haven Mite C Blue team hosted Southeastern Mite C at Bennett Rink. In net for the Blue Devils was Kaden Kendall, who had made many great saves during the matchup.Multiple goals were scored by Zander Cianciullo, Chloe Kendall, Connor Gaul, Joey Gaul and Mena Paredes, with one of the goals by Paredes assisted by Connor Gaul. Nico Camera played excellent defense and additional great passes were made by Macro Camera.


(September 17, 2023) - The West Haven Mite A hockey team had a solid opening weekend with important contributions from everyone.
On Saturday against Greater New Haven, the Blue Devils battled on the ice with an impressive debut from Finn McLaughlin between the posts, and goals from Landon Alling, Maddy Bruder, and Austin Picard. Assists went to Brayden Gagliardi, Jack Weiss and Quinn Uscilla.
On Sunday, the Westies were unstoppable against Mid Fairfield Mite A Gold with multiple goals from each of Picard, Uscilla and Weiss, and additional goals from Alling, JP Beebe, Bruder, and Gabbie Jenei. The West Haven defense also proved to be a lot to handle with Ava Healy leading the way in front of McLaughlin.
West Haven started the following weekend strong against Darien A1 with multiple goals by Jenei, Weiss and Picard. The Westies spread their offense around with Bruder, Gagliardi and Quinn Uscilla also scoring and assists coming from Beebe, Alling, Gagliardi, and Uscilla.  The Westies saw strong defense from Beebe and Healy, and McLaughlin had another solid game in net. 
On Sunday, West Haven fought a tough battle against the Wonderland 8U A team. Healy, with her first appearance in goal, made a number of clutch saves in net.
Beebe scored a pair for the Mites, with Alling and Jenei also contributing goals. West Haven had a number of shots on goal by Picard, Gagliardi, Bruder, Weiss and Uscilla. 
The West Haven Mite B hockey team took on East Haven at Bennett Rink on Saturday morning. The Blue Devils were led by an outstanding effort in net from Luke Salkins. Blake Bova led the scoring attack with a tremendous goal. Maddie Demayo and Parker Vitelli provided great hustle and battled the entire game. 
The West Haven U18 Midget hockey team opened the season with four straight victories. Behind solid goaltending from Jason Gherlone and Javed Ullah, a strong defensive showing, and timely goals, the Westies have started in impressive fashion.
The Westies opened the season with four first period goals in an 8-2 victory over Greater New Haven. Cam DelVecchio led the way with three goals and an assist, Dante Hardt had two assists, and Eli Gregory, Cody Rocchio, Mike Madera, and Will DelVecchio also scored in the win.
After a 4-0 victory over Ct Riverhawks, West Haven returned to action with a 2-1 victory over Ridgefield. Hardt scored off assists from Cam DelVecchio and Connor Bunnell, before JJ Alling scored the eventual winning goal in the second period off assists from Jayden Spreyer and Haygen Axelrod.West Haven closed the weekend with an 11-0 victory over Wonderland White in Bridgeport. Cam DelVecchio led the offense with four goals and an assist, Spreyer had two goals and two assists, Madera added a goal and two assists, while Hardt had a goal and an assist. Alling and Tyler Bernardi also scored in the win, while Cody Rocchio, Zack Fonda, and Bunnell added assists. 

(September 24, 2023) - The West Haven Mite B hockey team spent the weekend on the road and received solid contributions from the entire roster.
The weekend kicked off with a flurry of goals by the Mite B's. On Saturday, the Westies traveled to Shelton to play Shelton RiverHawks B.
The Westie sticks were on fire, with multiple goals each from Chase Liston, Luke Salkins, Blake Bova, and Parker Vitelli, as well as an additional goal from Maddie Demayo. A strong defensive effort was led by Callen Tagliatela with Dean Azano playing a strong game in net. 
On Sunday, the Westies traveled to Stamford to take on Darien Mite Blue. Azano again led the way in net, with strong contributions from Rylan Jacob and Darcy Jacob at both ends of the ice.Salkins had a terrific offensive game, while Liston, Tagliatela, and Bova had multiple shots on net throughout the contest.

(October 1, 2023) - West Haven Mite A hockey team had a solid weekend of hockey. On Saturday, the Westies battled against South Windsor 8U A with a hat trick from Landon Alling and additional goals from JP Beebe, Brayden Gagliardi and Quinn Uscilla.
Uscilla and Jack Weiss each had an assist, and the rest of the team kept the South Windsor goalie on his heels with multiple shots from Maddy Bruder, Gabriella Jenei, Weiss and Austin Picard. Finn Mclaughlin made a number of clutch saves in net.
West Haven finished the weekend strong against Hamden 8u A Gold with multiple goals from Alling and Picard. 
The Westies spread the scoring around with Ava Healy, Beebe, Bruder, Gagliardi, Jenei, and Weiss also on the scoreboard, and assists from Uscilla, Jenei and Picard. McLaughlin was a force again in goal.
The West Haven Mite B hockey team began the weekend on the road with an offensive barrage. Traveling to South Windsor to play the South Windsor Knights B team, the Westies were led by a dominant effort in net from Blake Bova.
Parker Vitelli and Luke Salkins each scored multiple goals, with Dean Azano contributing another goal to the effort. Callen Tagliatela made multiple strong defensive plays to limit the South Windsor offense. On Sunday, the Westies returned home to Bennett Rink to take on Darien Blue in a rematch from a week prior. Salkins and Azano provided scoring, while Rylan Jacob contributed on both ends of the ice.

Bova was in goal again and stopped many shots, including multiple highlight reel saves. Vitelli contributed multiple shots on net in the effort.

The West Haven 18U Midget team won a pair of games this weekend, topping the Whalers and Southern.
West Haven traveled to Cromwell on Saturday and rallied twice to defeat the Whalers 3-2. Trailing 1-0, the Westies evened the contest on a superb individual effort by Cam DelVecchio.
The Westies again trailed by a goal, but Mike Madera sent Jayden Spreyer in for the tying goal in the second period. West Haven scored the go-ahead goal in the final five minutes when Zack Fonda scored off assists from Madera and Yousaf Ullah for the 3-2 win.
Javed Ullah and Jayson Gherlone were each stellar between the pipes for the Westies.
West Haven closed the weekend with a 9-2 victory over Southern at the Bennett Rink Sunday afternoon. DelVecchio led the offense with three goals and an assist, Ullah had two goals and an assist, and Madera and JJ Alling each had a goal and two assists as 10 different players were in the scoring column.Fonda and Eli Gregory each had two assists, with Dante Hardt and Connor Bunnell also scoring.

Will DelVecchio also had an assist in the win, and Javed Ullah and Gherlone both played well in goal.

(October 8, 2023) - The West Haven Mite A hockey team had a tough battle on the ice against the Wonderland 8U A team. Goaltender Finn McLaughlin made a number of spectacular saves in net, with Maddy Bruder playing strong defense in front of him.
Gabriella Jenei, Jack Weiss and Landon Alling put the Westies on the scoreboard. Austin Picard and JP Beebe assisted on the goals. Quinn Uscilla, Ava Healy and Brayden Gagliardi had a number of shots on goal.
The West Haven Mite B hockey team played host to Mid Fairfield Black at Bennett Rink. The first ten minutes of the game were scoreless, with Maddie Demayo making multiple clutch saves in net. 
Led by a hat trick from Blake Bova, the West Haven offense clicked on all cylinders. Chase Liston, Luke Salkins, and Parker Vitelli each scored multiple goals, while Dean Azano tallied an additional goal. Darcy Jacob contributed strong play on both ends of the ice in the Mite B triumph. 
The West Haven U 18 Midget team won a pair of contests this weekend. West Haven opened with a 4-1 victory over Wonderland and capped the weekend with a 9-2 win at Western Massachusetts.
Against Wonderland, West Haven took control of the contest with four second period goals. Cam Delvecchio got the Westies on the board off assists from Dante Hardt and Eli Gregory, before Gregory increased the lead to 2-0 off assists from Will Delvecchio and JJ Alling.
Zack Fonda helped West Haven to a 3-0 lead off assists from Alling and Mike Madera, before Cam Delvecchio’s second goal, off assists from Hardt and Alling, gave West Haven a 4-0 advantage.

West Haven closed the weekend with the win in Massachusetts. The Westies struck quickly with a 6-1 second period lead and never looked back. Hardt, Cam Delvecchio and Gregory combined for the first six goals.

(October 15, 2023) - The West Haven Mite A hockey team headed into the weekend against a tough Mid Fairfield team. West Haven got on the board with multiple goals by Landon Alling, JP Beebe, and Austin Picard.
Brayden Gagliardi, Gabriella Jenei, Quinn Uscilla, and Jack Weiss had shots on goal. Finn McLaughlin had a strong showing in net, with great defense from Maddy Bruder and Ava Healy in front of him.
On Sunday, the Westies put on a showcase against the Watertown 8U White team. Every player contributed.
Alling, Gagliardi, Jenei, Picard, Uscilla and Weiss had multiple goals, and Bruder also got on the scoreboard. Healy was a presence in goal.

The West Haven Mite B hockey team played host to the Shoreline Sharks on Saturday. Chase Liston played a strong game in net, Blake Bova kicked off the scoring with an impressive goal between two defenders, and Dean Azano added multiple goals, including a breakaway score. Luke Salkins tallied an additional goal late with an impressive top-corner wrist shot. 
West Haven traveled to East Haven on Sunday to take on the Yellow Jackets. In what was a spirited effort, Bova and Salkins led the way offensively. Callen Tagliatela played a strong game on both ends of the ice, adding multiple shots on net and several strong defensive plays. Liston again made numerous big saves in net.
The West Haven Mite C Blue team had its first home game of the year. Joseph Gaul was in net for the Blue Devils and made many excellent saves during the matchup.
Multiple goals were scored by Mena Paredes and Chloe Kendall, with another goal by Connor Gaul. Multiple shots on net were made by Paredes, Kendall and Gaul, and Nico Camera also contributed a shot on net.
On Sunday, both Mite C teams joined forces and played in the Bridgeport Islanders Mite Jamboree at Total Mortgage Arena.
Kaden Kendall was in net for all four games, making many awesome saves during each 12-minute matchup.
In the first game against Mid-Fairfield Mite B, Sebastian Malangone had a goal and an additional shot on net. In the second game against Wonderland Mite B, Paredes scored a goal, with shots on net also from Isabella Rasile, Gaul, Mila Malangone and Marco Camera.
In the third game vs Mid-Fairfield Mite C, Malangone and Gaul each recorded shots on net. In the final game against Wonderland Mite B, Paredes recorded multiple goals with another shot on goal from Malangone.
The West Haven U18 Midget team remained undefeated with a pair of victories this weekend. The Westies opened with a 3-1 win over Wonderland, before closing the two days with a 9-4 victory over Greater New Haven.
West Haven trailed Wonderland 1-0 starting the third period, but Mike Madera scored with 13:36 remaining off assists from Jayden Spreyer and T.J. Levenduski to even the game at one. The game remained knotted until Spreyer scored off assists from Zack Fonda and Madera with 3:35 to go.
Connor Bunnell added an empty net goal with 1:07 left for the 3-1 final. Javed Ullah was stellar in goal in the win for West Haven.
Th Westies again trailed in the second contest of the weekend, spotting Greater New Haven a 2-0 lead. West Haven rebounded in impressive fashion as Eli Gregory finished with a hat trick, and Madera and Spreyer each scored twice.
Trailing by two, West Haven scored three times in a span of 1:14 to take the lead. Gregory cut the deficit in half off assists from Will Delvecchio and Cam Delvecchio, Cam Delvecchio scored the equalizer, and Spreyer gave West Haven a 3-2 lead off assists from Yousaf Ullah and Bunnell.
With the game even at three, Madera put the Westies on top for good off an assist from Haygen Axelrod with 2:10 left in the second.Gregory scored off assists from Spreyer and Cam Delvecchio for a 5-3 lead, before Madera, Spreyer and Gregory capped the scoring outburst in the third. 

(October 29, 2023) - West Haven Mite B hockey team hosted New Canaan at Bennett Rink on Saturday. The Westies had a great showing, with goals coming in bunches.
Luke Salkins paced the Westies offensively with many goals. Blake Bova and Chase Liston each tallied multiple goals.
Rylan Jacob scored an additional goal, while Dean Azano also scored on an assist from Liston. Defensively, Parker Vitelli led the way in net with several clutch saves.  
The West Haven U18 Midget hockey team split a pair of contests with Greater New Haven this weekend. West Haven lost 4-2 at Northford Saturday afternoon, before following with a win at West Haven on Sunday.
The Westies trailed 3-0 in the third on Saturday, before Jayden Spreyer scored off an assist from Zack Fonda with 3:11 remaining. Less than a minute later, Jason Alling scored off an assist from Dante Hardt to get within 3-2, but an empty net goal by Greater New Haven sent West Haven to its first defeat of the year.
West Haven rebounded to post an 8-5 victory over Greater New Haven Sunday afternoon at the Edward L. Bennett Rink in West Haven. Mike Madera and Cam Delvecchio led the offense with two goals and an assist apiece, Eli Gregory scored twice, and Spreyer added a goal and two assists in the win.
West Haven jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead as Madera scored off an assist from Spreyer 4:12 into the game, and Delvecchio scored off an assist from Alling two minutes later. Delvecchio increased the lead to 3-1 off assists from Haygen Axelrod and Will Delvecchio, before Yousaf Ullah scored of an assist from Spreyer for a 4-2 lead.
With the game even at four, Spreyer scored a short-handed goal off an assist from Madera, before the two teams went to the third period even at five.Eli Gregory scored twice for a 7-5 lead, with assists going to Connor Bunnell and Will Delvecchio, before Madera scored on a breakaway with 4:53 to go.

(November 5, 2023) - The West Haven Mite A hockey team hosted a tough Wonderland Mite A1 team. The Westies had a lot of offense with goals from JP Beebe, Maddy Bruder, Brayden Gagliardi, Gabriella Jenei, Austin Picard and Jack Weiss. Ava Healy, Quinn Uscilla, Jeinei and Picard assisted on the scoring, and Landon Alling played hard on both ends of the ice. Finn McLaughlin was clutch in goal.
The Westies continued their scoring, traveling to Northford Ice Pavilion against Greater New Haven Mite A.  Gagliardi contributed multiple goals and Alling, Bruder, Jenei, and Picard also got on the scoreboard. Uscilla and Alling had multiple assists and Weiss had an assist and multiple shots on goal.
Beebe was clutch on both ends of the ice. Healy made a great defensive showing in front of Mclaughlin, who was on fire in goal.
West Haven kicked off this weekend at home facing the New Canaan Winter Club A team.  Jenei and Picard handled the scoring for the Westies.
McLaughlin faced a lot of shots in net. Alling, Gagliardi and Uscilla played hard on both ends. Weiss, Bruder, Beebe, and Healy had great backchecking.
The Westies finished the weekend playing a strong Mid Fairfield Stars 2015 team. McLaughlin had another busy game in net and Beebe led the scoring for West Haven.
Alling, Gagliardi, Jenei, Picard, Uscilla and Weiss had multiple shots on goal, and Bruder and Healy played tough on d.
The West Haven Mite B hockey team’s hot steak continued as the entire roster provided key contributions over the weekend.
The Westies hosted the Shelton Riverhawks 8U B at Bennett Rink. In front of Darcy Jacob in net, the Westies clicked on all cylinders. Chase Liston, Dean Azano, Blake Bova, Parker Vitelli, and Luke Salkins each scored multiple goals. 
The Westies then traveled to the Wonderland of Ice in Bridgeport to take on the Wonderland Wizards Blue. In what was a tight game, Bova stepped up in net and made clutch save after clutch save, including an impressive glove save to shut down a breakaway.
Offensively, the Westies were led by Azano and Salkins, who each scored multiple goals. Callen Tagliatela and Liston also contributed goals. Defensively, Maddie Demayo played a strong game and contributed multiple shots on net. 
The West Haven Mite C Blue team traveled to Norwich to take on Southeastern Mite C. Kaden Kendall was in goal and made many saves during the matchup.
Multiple shots on goal were made by Joseph Gaul, Connor Gaul, Chloe Kendall and Mena Paredes. Zander Cianciullo also had a shot on net, and excellent defense was played by Marco Camera and Nico Camera.
The West Haven 18U Midget hockey team split four games this weekend in Marlborough, Massachusetts. After dropping the first two games, the Westies rallied back to take the final two contests.
In the opener, West Haven fell 4-1, with Yousaf Ullah scoring the only goal. West Haven then fell 2-1 in the second contest as Haygen Axelrod tallied the lone West Haven goal off an assist from Jayden Spreyer.
West Haven won the third game against Buffalo by a score of 5-1. Mike Madera led the Westies with two goals, Tyler Bernardi played well offensively, and the defense of Axelrod, Jason Alling, Will Delvecchio, T.J. Levenduski, and Connor Bunnell was solid throughout.
Cam Delvecchio gave the Westies a 1-0 lead off an assist from Dante Hardt, Will Delvecchio made it 2-0 1:48 into the second, before Madera gave West Haven a 3-1 lead off assists from Ullah and Spreyer.
Hardt gave West Haven some cushion off an assist from Alling with 9:19 to go, and Madera iced the contest off assists from Ullah and Cody Rocchio with 3:11 remaining.
The Westies closed the tournament with an 8-1 victory over Buffalo as Madera scored twice, and Spreyer had a goal and an assist.
Madera started the scoring 2:50 into the game, Bunnell made it 2-0, and Madera scored off an assist from Spreyer with 2:44 left in the first for a 3-0 advantage. Owen Zaharawicz ended West Haven’s first period scoring for a 4-0 advantage.
Leading 4-1, Ullah and Spreyer scored 23 seconds apart late in the second for a 6-1 lead. Cam Delvecchio and Eli Gregory capped the scoring in the final period.

Jayson Gherlone and Javed Ullah played well in all four games for the Westies. 

(November 12, 2023) - The West Haven Mite B hockey team traveled to South Norwalk to take on Mid Fairfield Black on Sunday. In a rematch of a close game from earlier in the season, the Westies played one of their strongest games of the year.
Rylan Jacob again proved to be too tough for the Mid Fairfield offense, stopping shots the entire game. Parker Vitelli, Blake Bova, Chase Liston, Dean Azano, and Luke Salkins each found the back of the net multiple times. Callen Tagliatela and Darcy Jacob played with great energy on both ends of the ice, helping set up several Westie goals. 
The West Haven Mite C Blue hockey team traveled to South Windsor to take on South Windsor Mite C on Sunday. In net for the Blue Devils was Kaden Kendall, who made several outstanding saves during the matchup.
Multiple goals were scored by Mena Paredes, while Joseph Gaul recorded an assist. Multiple shots on net were made by Chloe Kendall, Paredes, Connor Gaul and Joseph Gaul, with Zander Cianciullo also contributing a shot on goal.
Excellent defense was played by Marco Camera, Nico Camera and Paredes.
The West Haven 18U Midget hockey team won a pair of games this weekend, topping the Riverhawks and Hamden.
The Westies opened the weekend with a 10-1 victory over the Riverhawks. Jayden Spreyer led the way with three goals, Cam Delvecchio scored twice, and Eli Gregory and Mike Madera each finished with a goal and an assist.
Madera gave the Westies a 1-0 lead with an unassisted tally with 9:19 remaining in the first period, and Spreyer scored off assists from Will Delvecchio and T.J. Levenduski for a 2-0 advantage after one.  
The Westies scored four times in each of the final two periods to pull away. Dante Hardt, Cam Delvecchio, Cody Rocchio and Spreyer all scored in the second, with Yousaf Ullah, Gregory, Owen Zaharawicz and Haygen Axelrod picking up assists.
Spreyer, Gregory, and Cam Delvecchio scored in the third, with Madera and Will Delvecchio picking up assists in the period.
West Haven capped the weekend with a 6-2 victory at Hamden. Ullah, Spreyer, and Jason Alling scored in the first period, Zack Fonda scored in the second, and Cam Delvecchio and Rocchio scored in the third.

Javed Ullah and Jayson Gherlone played well in goal all weekend for the Westies.
