Westies fall to Branford
Lose eighth straight match

 The West Haven girls tennis team fell to 1-9 after losing a pair of matches against Branford. The Westies fell in the opening match 6-1 then dropped the second match 7-0.
Playing without top-seeded Marisa Berti, the Westies again had to juggle the lineups in both matches. In the opening match, Rosita Laureano fell to Isabelle Ruddy 6-1, 6-1 as the top seed and second-seeded Tenzin Yangdon lost to Yuyuing Liu 6-0, 6-0.
Third-seeded Lizeth Angel also fell by scores of 6-0, 6-0 to Julia Watsky. Alyssa Perez picked up West Haven’s lone victory as she defeated Maria Quagliano 6-4, 6-3 in the closest singles match.
In doubles play, Martha Jacobs and Brianna Biba fell to Kathryn Collins and Kayleen Kessler in the top-seeded doubles match by scores of 6-3, 6-0. Karen Zambrano and Tania Mohamed fell to Vasanthi Balaji and Tally Sepot 7-5, 7-5 and, in another close match, Puja Patel and Kara Patterson lost to Samantha Bailey Loomis and Seyoung Lim 7-5, 6-4.
In the second contest between the two teams, Ruddy defeated Laureano 6-0, 6-0 and Liu defeated Yangdon 6-2, 6-0. Third-seeded Zhanneta Khoultchaeva beat Josephine Ankrah 6-0, 6-0 and Carissa Kamin beat Shannon Card 7-6, 6-1.
In doubles action, top-seeded Collins and Kessler defeated Jacobs and Biba 5-1 before the Westies retired. Balaji and Sepot again won as the second seed over Zambrano and Mohamed 6-0, 4-6, 10-8 and Jennifer Tran and Maggie Chase defeated Jessica Kuchta and Amalia Mohd 6-2, 6-1.  

Hamden slips past Westies
Doubles teams post only victories

 The West Haven girls tennis team fell to 1-10 on the season with a 5-2 loss against Hamden Friday afternoon. Both West Haven victories came in doubles play as the Green Dragons dominated singles play.
Second-seeded Karen Zambrano and Tania Mohamed defeated Emily Ryder and Crystal Campbell 6-2, 6-2 and third-seeded Lizeth Angel and Alyssa Perez were victorious over Kristin Cataldo and Veronica Bitz 6-4, 7-5. Top-seeded Brianna Biba and Martha Jacobs fell to Anisha Lewis and Cristina Esposito 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 10-6.
In singles play, top-seeded Marisa Berti returned to action but fell to Sarah Baker 6-0, 6-0. Rosita Laureano fell at the second spot 6-0, 6-1 against Ebba Rundquist and third-seeded Katie Johnstone lost to Amber Kountz 6-1, 6-0. Josephine Ankrah dropped a 6-0, 6-3 decision against Sarah Cubells to close out singles play.

Mercy beats West Haven
Tigers sweep singles play

– The West Haven girls tennis team fell to Mercy Monday afternoon 5-2.The Tigers swept their way through singles play to propel them to the victory.
West Haven’s victories came in doubles action as top-seeded Martha Jacobs and Brianna Biba defeated Nicole Susca and Amy Gioco 6-1, 4-6, 7-5. Second-seeded Karen Zambrano and Tania Mohamed defeated Maria Malafronte and Bridget Scott 7-5, 6-4.
The Tigers posted one victory ion doubles play. Christiana Freitag and Katie Freitag defeated Puja Patel and Jacqueline Corvera 6-3, 6-0.
Singles play saw Marisa Berti fall in the top slot against Hayley Magrin 6-1, 6-1 and second-seeded Katie Johnstone fell to Emily Walters 6-2, 6-2. Third-seeded Tenzin Yangdon lost to Ashley Golebiewski 6-2, 6-1 and Lizeth Angel dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision to Sara Rosborough.

Westies end losing streak
10-match skid over with 6-1 victory over Career/Hillhouse

– The West Haven girls tennis team defeated Career/Hillhouse Wednesday afternoon 6-1. With the victory, West Havensnapped a losing streak which stretched to 10 matches and improved to 2-11 on the season.
The Westies swept play in doubles action as top-seeded Brianna Biba and Martha Jacobs defeated Kierra Turnbull and Nia Blackwell 6-1, 6-0. Second-seeded Karen Zambrano and Tania Mohamed beat Teresa Pineiro and Aaliyah Barnes 6-1, 6-0 and Tenzin Yangdon and Jacqueline Corvera defeated Ashley Arinnas and Aleena Kazmi 6-2, 6-2.
In singles play, top-seeded Marisa Berti was a 6-0, 6-4 victor over Lynette Perez and second-seeded Rosita Laureano defeated Stephanie Thy 6-1, 6-0.
Third-seeded Katie Johnstone was also a winner a she beat Nur Amir 6-2, 6-2. The only West Haven loss came from Michelle Diaz who fell to Marie Toupou 6-3, 6-2.

Westies fall to Law
Milford team sweeps singles play to victory

– The West Haven girls tennis team fell to Jonathan Law Friday afternoon in Milford. In what was a close match, the Westies were defeated 4-3.
Law won this match by virtue of its play in singles action as the Westies were swept in all four matches. On the flip side, West Haven swept play in doubles action.
In doubles play, Brianna Biba and Martha Jacobs defeated Katherine Muratore and Jamie Kaminski 6-4, 7-6 (7-1), Karen Zambrano and Tania Mohamed defeated Alexis Kressu and Bahvani Jaladanki 6-3, 6-3 and Tenzin Yangdon and Jacqueline Corvera defeated Olivia Herman and Melissa Meahan 7-6 (7-2) , 6-4.
In singles play, Marisa Berti fell to Marisa Perce 6-3, 6-0 at the top spot and Rosita Laureano fell as the second seed to Lianne Maynard 6-1, 6-1. Third-seeded Katie Johnstone fell to Danielle Novak 6-1, 6-0 and Alyssa Perez was defeated by Olivia Noyes 6-0, 6-1.

Sheehan cruises to sweep

 The West Haven girls tennis team dropped its second straight match and fell to 2-13 on the season with a 7-0 loss against Sheehan Saturday. The Titans proved to be too much for the Westies, easily winning at home.
In singles play, West Haven’s Marisa Berti fell to Chelsea Brown 6-0, 6-0, Rosita Laureano fell at the second spot to Jen Lange 6-2, 6-2 and third-seeded Josephine Ankrah fell to Kristin Viscardi 6-1, 6-0. Lizeth Angel fell in the fourth slot to Ksenya Dobrovolsky  6-0, 6-1.
In doubles play, Karen Zambrano and Tania Mohamed fell as the top seed to Hannah Murphy and Maureen Hinman 6-1, 6-2. Martha Jacobs and Alyssa Perez fell to Megan Comeau and Casey Kealey 6-0, 6-0 and Tenzin Yangdon and Puja Patel lost to Isabelle Jacobson and Sarah Gansley 6-2, 6-0.

Snap skid with victory

- The West Haven girls tennis team snapped a two-match losing streak as the Westies defeated East Haven 4-3 Tuesday afternoon.West Haven’s victory was made possible with a sweep in doubles action.
The Westies took home all three matches in doubles play and one in singles action to post the victory. With the victory, West Haven improved to 3-13 on the season.
In doubles play, top-seeded Martha Jacobs and Brianna Biba defeated Sarah O’Donoghue and Elise Tomasello 6-2, 7-6 and Karen Zambrano and Tania Mohamed defeated Gabby Didiano and Nicole Gildersleeve 6-7, 7-5, 6-2. Also in doubles action, third-seeded Tenzin Yangdon and Alyssa Perez defeated Carissa Moran and Michele Gambardella 6-1, 6-3.
In singles action, top-seeded Marisa Berti fell to Katie Mikulski 6-0, 6-0, while Rosita Laureano defeated Chelsea Bast 6-3, 7-6. Third-seeded Katie Johnstone fell to Eliza Gladwin 6-0, 6-1 and Josephine Ankrah fell to Crystal Witter 6-0, 6-1.

Westies end season with loss to Lyman Hall
4-3 loss caps season on down note

- After defeating East Haven a day earlier, the West Havengirls tennis team hoped to close the season with two straight wins. Traveling to Wallingford to play Lyman Hall, the Westies were in for a battle using the pro set format.
While West Haven won two of three matches in doubles play, it was not enough as Lyman Hall defeated the Westies 4-3. West Haven finished the season 3-14.
In singles play, top-seeded Marisa Berti fell to Melanie Schanke 9-7, second-seeded Katie Johnstone defeated Erika Fulton 8-1 and Michelle Diaz lost to Allie Weborg 8-2 at the third slot. Shannon Card rounded out singles action with an 8-2 loss to Isabelle Ouimette-Fishbein.
In doubles action, the top seed of Martha Jacobs and Brianna Biba posted an 8-2 victory over Chelsea Doyle and Rachel Harlan. Karen Zambrano and Tania Mohamed defeated Sarah Shoemaker and Emily Newhard 8-2 while Tenzin Yangdon and Kara Patterson fell to Laura Brooks and Breanna Tolla 8-3.

Easties sweep West Haven
Westies fail to  win close matches

 The West Haven girls tennis team fell to East Haven 7-0 atWest Haven. While the Westies were in most matches, the Easties proved too much to overcome.
In singles play, top-seeded Marisa Berti fell to Katie Mikulski 6-1, 6-2, junior Rosita Laureano lost against Chelsea Bast 6-0, 6-2 and senior Katie Johnstone fell to Eliza Gladwin 6-3, 6-1. The final singles match went toEast Haven’s Crystal Witter as she defeated junior Michelle Diaz 6-4, 6-0.
East Haven also swept the three matches in doubles play. Martha Jacobs and Brianna Biba fell to Sarah O'Donoghue and Amariah Lem 6-3, 6-3 and Karen Zambrano and Tania Mohamed fell to Nicole Gildersleeve and Gabby Didiano in the closest match of the day 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.
The final doubles match went to East Haven as Elise Tomasello and Adrianna Tomasello defeated Tenzin Yangdon and Alyssa Perez 6-0, 6-3.  

West Haven picks up first victory of season
Westies sweep Career/Hillhouse

 The West Haven girls tennis team picked up its first victory of the season and improved to 1-1 when the Westies traveled to New Haven Tuesday afternoon. Despite playing in several tough singles matches, the Westies swept the match against Career - Hillhouse 7-0.
In singles action, Marisa Berti won at the top seed with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Lynette Perez. At the second slot, Rosita Laureano was in a battle but defeated Stephanie Thy of Career  7-5, 6-3.
Katie Johnstone and Career’s Nur Amir played the best and longest match of the day. After dropping the first set 7-6 (12-10), Johnstone evened the match with a 6-2 victory in the third set. The third set again went to a tie-breaker and Johnstone prevailed 7-6 (10-4).
Michelle Diaz also won in singles action at the fourth slot. Diaz defeated Career’s Crystal Cardona 6-2, 6-0.
The Westies swept all three matches in doubles play with relative ease. Brianna Biba and Martha Jacobs won at the top slot 6-0, 6-0 over Kierra Turnbull and Nia Blackwell.
The second seed of Karen Zambrano and Tania Mohamed defeated Aleena Kazmi and Marie Toupou 6-0, 6-2 and the third seed of Tenzin Yangdon and Alyssa Perez won against Teresa Pineiro and Ashley Animas 6-1, 6-4.

Westies drop second of season
Law sends West Haven under .500

 The West Haven girls tennis team fell to 1-2 with a loss to Jonathan Law Friday afternoon in West Haven. The Westies were only able to win once each in singles and doubles play.
In singles play, top-seeded Marisa Berti fell 6-1 and 6-0 to Marisa Perce. Second-seeded Rosita Laureano lost a competitive match to freshman Lianne Maynard as she lost the first set 6-0, won the second set 6-4 and dropped the third set by a score of 6-1.
In another battle at the third seed, West Haven’s Michelle Diaz lost a thriller. After winning the first set 6-4, Diaz dropped the second set 6-4 and lost the third set in a tie-breaker 7-6 (7-4) against Danielle Novak. Josephine Ankrah was West Haven’s lone victor in singles play as she defeated Bahvani Jaladanki 6-4, 6-2.
In doubles play, top-seeded Brianna Biba and Karen Zambrano defeated Katherine Muratore and Olivia Noyes in another thriller. Biba and Zambrano dropped the first set 7-6 (8-6), but battled back to win the second set 6-1 and the third set 6-4.
Tenzin Yangdon and Tania Mohamed dropped a decision as the second seed to Jamie Kaminski and Alexis Kressu 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 and the third seed of Puja Patel and Jessica Kuchta fell to Olivia Herman and Melissa Meahan 6-2, 6-4. 

Sacred Heart gets best of Westies
Diaz wins in singles action for Westies

 The West Haven girls tennis team fell to Sacred HeartAcademy Thursday afternoon. The Pacers won three singles matches and two more in doubles play to defeat the Westies 5-2 in West Haven.
In singles action, top-seeded Marisa Berti fell to Caleigh Curran 6-0, 6-0, second-seeded Rosita Laureano lost to Lauren Zorena 6-0, 6-4 and third-seeded Katie Johnstone was defeated by Victoria Ryan 6-1, 6-1. Michelle Diaz was the lone singles winner for West Haven as she defeated Angie Stong 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles action, the top seed of Martha Jacobs and Karen Zambrano fell to Sacred Heart’s Claudia Krah and Xenia Zueva 6-1, 6-3. Lizeth Angel and Tania Mohamed defeated Deedee Hughes and Megan Kairiss 6-2, 6-4, while Rita Matta and Bethany Naccarto defeated West Haven’s Kara Patterson and Puja Patel 6-4, 6-2.

Westies drop third in row
Lose to Guilford 5-2

- The West Haven girls tennis team lost its third match in a row as the Westies fell to Guilford 5-2 in West Haven Monday afternoon. With the loss, West Haven fell to 1-4 on the season.
West Haven's victories came in doubles play. Second-seeded Tania Mohamed and Karen Zambrano defeated Kristen Keyser and Nicole Bondos in a tight match 6-4, 6-2 and third-seeded Tenzin Yangdon and Lizeth Angel beat Mikaela Weiss and Chloe Gorman in emphatic fashion, 6-0, 6-0.
West Haven's top seed fell in straight sets. Martha Jacobs and Brianna Biba lost to Meg Goodrich and Kelly Sobolewski 6-2, 6-3.
The Indians dominated singles play. West Haven's Marisa Berti fell at the top spot 6-1, 6-1 and Rosita Laureano lost to Molly Louis in the second slot by scores of 6-0, 6-2.
Third-seeded Katie Johnstone was defeated by Amanda Lynn 6-1, 6-2 and Rebecca Hasenfeld defeated Josephine Ankrah in straight sets 6-0, 6-2.  

Westies fall to Shelton
Gaels ride singles play to victory

 The West Haven girls tennis team fell to 1-5 as the Westies lost to Shelton Wednesday afternoon. The Westies were dominated in singles play as the Gaels cruised to their eighth victory of the year.
In singles action, top-seeded Marisa Berti fell to Dominique Gumbs 6-0, 6-0, second-seeded Rosita Laureano lost to Brianna Kraynak 6-0, 6-0 and third-seeded Katie Johnstone fell 6-0, 6-0 against Laurie Boisvert. Michelle Diaz picked up West Haven's lone point in singles play, falling to Rachel Najarian 6-0, 6-1.
The Westies played better in doubles action. Martha Jacobs and Brianna Biba fell as the top seed to Dana Cho and Alexandria Gumbs 6-2, 6-1 and second-seeded Tania Mohamed and Karen Zambrano fell 6-1, 6-3 against Susanna Shigo and Julia Yambao.
Jacqueline Corvera and Jessica Kuchta rounded out the doubles action, falling to Monica Tang and Rigel Mahmood 6-1, 6-2.

Lyman Hall cruises past West Haven

 The West Haven girls tennis team fell to Lyman Hall Friday afternoon at home. Winning just once in doubles play, the Westies fell to the Trojans 6-1.
West Haven’s lone victory of the day came from top-seeded Martha Jacobs and Brianna Biba. Jacobs and Biba defeated Sarah Shoemaker and Rachel Harlan 6-0, 6-3.
In other doubles action, second-seeded Tania Mohamed and Karen Zambrano fell to Emily Ardito and Chelsea Doyle in a tough match 7-5, 6-3. Third-seeded Tenzin Yangdon and Lizeth Angel also played well at the third seed but fell to Breanna Tolla and Laura Brooks 6-3, 6-4.
The Westies also had several good battles in singles play. Unfortunately for West Haven, the Trojans were able to pull away and take home the victories in each match.
Rosita Laureano, playing as the top seed for West Haven, fell to Mel Schanke 1-6, 6-4, 7-5 in a grueling match. Second-seeded Katie Johnstone lost to Samantha Libby 6-2, 6-1 and third-seeded Michelle Diaz fell to Allie Weborg 7-6, 6-3. Josephine Ankrah closed out singles play with a 6-1, 6-4 loss against Isabelle Ouimette-Fishbein.

Westies fall to Foran
Drop sixth straight match

- The West Haven girls tennis team fell to 1-7 with a 6-1 loss to Foran-Milford Monday afternoon. The lone victory for West Haven came in doubles play as the Lions cruised to the home victory.
West Haven, again playing without top-seeded Marisa Berti, had to shuffle its lineup. Rosita Laureano played as the top seed and fell to Rebecca Giden 6-4, 6-0.
Second-seeded Katie Johnstone lost to Kathryn Amenta 6-1, 6-1, Michelle Diaz fell to Emily Simpson 6-1, 6-0 and fourth-seeded Alyssa Perez dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision to Jerilyn Weglinski.
In doubles action, top-seeded Martha Jacobs and Brianna Biba dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Rebecca Raucci and Jaime Kader and third-seeded Tenzin Yangdon and Jacqueline Corvera lost 6-1, 6-2 against Anna Levinson and Naagma Timakondu.
West Haven’s lone victory came from the second seed. Karen Zambrano and Tania Mohamed defeated Ally Raucci and Rebecca Tutino to help avoid the sweep.
