Westies fall in Opener
WH loses to Foran 5-2

 - The West Haven boys tennis team opened the season with a 5-2 loss at Foran Monday afternoon.  West Haven’s wins came in doubles play.
West Haven’s second seed of Johnny Chen and Yousef Khan defeated Steven Mingrone and Johann Chen 6-4, 6-3, while third-seeded Javon Huang and Abdourahim Mbengue topped Foran’s Noah Held and John Brown 5-6, 6-1, 10-8. Foran’s top seed of Keith Pokornowski and Kyle Pokornowski topped West Haven’s Robert Vets and Eshwar Balakumar 6-0, 6-1. 
Foran swept singles play as top-seeded Ryan Purviance defeated West Haven’s Miguel Torres 7-5, 6-1, and second-seeded Arush Puri topped Benjamin Sager of West Haven 6-2, 4-6, 10-3.  Third-seeded Danny Ruano of Foran defeated Brandon Sihaphong 6-0, 6-2, and fourth-seeded Tristan Adorno of Foran topped Ali Hanza 6-1, 6-0.


First of Season
WH tops Cross 5-2

  - The West Haven boys tennis team improved to 1-1 with a 5-2 victory over Wilbur Cross Friday afternoon in West Haven.
In singles play, West Haven’s top seed of Punar Garani defeated Yang In Kim 6-4, 6-4, second seed Miguel Torres of West Haven defeated Adam Sharqawe 6-4, 3-6, 6-0, and third-seeded Benjamin Sager of West Haven topped Lily Goren 6-0, 6-2.  Fourth-seeded Sofia Bedoga Rose of Wilbur Cross defeated Brandon Sihaphong 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles play, top-seeded Antonio Mandania and Mario Berrios of Wilbur Cross defeated Robert Vets and Valentin Diaz 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.  Second-seeded Johnny Chen and Yousef Khan of West Haven topped Roxanne Virtue and Kerry Fajardo of Cross 6-2, 6-1, and third-seeded Abdourahim Mbengue and Eshwar Balakumar of West Haven defeated Vera Kurczewski and Cassius Morgan-Cox of Wilbur Cross 6-3, 6-2.

WH falls 7-0

  - The West Haven boys tennis team fell to 1-2 with a 7-0 loss on the road against Hamden Monday afternoon.
In singles action, Hamden’s top seed of Brian Oppenheim defeated Punar Garani 6-3, 6-4.  Second-seeded Quin Northrup topped West Haven’s Miguel Torres 6-1, 6-0, third-seeded Nolan Jermain was victorious over Benjamin Sager 6-2, 7-6, and Josh Alexander topped West haven’s Brandon Sihaphong 6-1, 6-2.

In doubles play, Hamden’s top seed of Ivan Jimenez and Paras Dodd defeated West Haven’s Valentin Diaz and Robert Vets 6-3, 6-1.  Kaustuv Mohanty and Keshav Menom topped West Haven’s Johnny Chen and Yousef Khan 6-1, 6-3, and Lucian Gaetjen and Anshul Deval defeated Abdourahim Mbengue and Eshwar Balakumar of West Haven 6-4, 5-7, 7-4.


Westies fall to Lyman Hall
WH drops 5-2 decision

  - The West Haven boys tennis team dropped its second straight match and fell to 1-3 with a 5-2 loss against Lyman Hall in West Haven Tuesday afternoon.
In singles play, Lyman Hall’s Jackson Mailhot defeated West Haven’s Punar Garani 6-3, 6-3, Brady Campbell topped West Haven’s Miguel Torres 6-0, 6-2, Ashol Patel defeated Benjamin Sager of West Haven 6-4, 7-5, and Caiden McManus defeated West Haven’s Anthony Sihaphong 7-5, 6-3.
In doubles play, Nathan Rininger and Joe Marrone of Lyman Hall defeated Valentin Diaz and Robert Vets 6-3, 6-2. 

West Haven won the last two doubles matches as Johnny Chen and Yousef Khan defeated Kevin Duong and Sean Collinghan 6-2, 6-3, and Eshwar Balakumar and Abdourahim Mbengue defeated Pablo Dominguez Solis and Richard Yeung 6-4, 6-3.

Westies top EH 6-1

  - The West Haven boys tennis team snapped its two-match losing streak with a 6-1 victory over East Haven at West Haven High Wednesday afternoon. With the victory, the Westies improved to 2-3 on the year.
In singles action, top-seeded Punar Garani defeated Oliver Kabel 6-3, 6-0, second-seeded Miguel Torres topped Victor Unabia 6-0, 6-2, Benjamin Sager won over Kevin Phan 6-1, 6-2, and Brandon Sihaphong defeated Santiago Zapata 6-3, 9-7.

In doubles play, Thanh Noo and Shiv Patel of East Haven defeated top-seeded Johnny Chen and Yousef Khan 8-6, 4-6, 10-7.  Second-seeded Eshwar Balakumar and Robert Vets of West Haven topped Greg Vera and Aedan Conners 6-1, 4-6, 6-1, and West Haven’s Javon Huang and Abdourahim Mbengue defeated Gustavo Flores-Soto and Mateo Romero 6-0, 6-1.

 - The West Haven boys tennis team fell to 2-4 with a 6-1 loss against Foran at West haven Wednesday afternoon.
The lone victory for West Haven came in doubles action as third-seeded Valentin Diaz and Abdourahim Mbengue defeated Noah Held and John Brown 6-1, 6-0.

 - The West Haven boys tennis team fell to Lyman Hall Thursday afternoon in Wallingford. The 6-1 loss dropped West Haven to 2-5 on the year.
West Haven’s only win came in doubles play as third-seeded Javon Huang and Abdourahim Mbengue topped Parth Jalgaonkar and Pablo Dominguez 6-4, 7-5.

 - The West Haven boys tennis team improved to 3-5 with a 4-3 victory over Wilbur Cross Monday afternoon in New Haven. The teams split singles matches, while West Haven won two of the three matches in doubles play.
In singles action, West Haven top seed of Miguel Torres defeated Adam Shargawe 6-0, 6-0, and West Haven’s second seed of Benjamin Sager topped JJ O’Garro 7-6, 6-3.  Young In Kim of Wilbur Cross defeated Brandon Sihaphong 6-3, 6-3, and Sophia Bedoyarose of Cross topped John Diaz 6-0, 6-0.

 - The West Haven boys tennis team defeated East Haven 6-1 on the road Friday afternoon. With the win, West Haven improved t0 4-5.
In singles action, Miguel Torres defeated Oliver Kabel 6-4, 6-4, second-seeded Punar Garani topped Kevin Phan 6-1, 7-6, and third-seeded Benjamin Sager defeated Santiago Zapata 6-2, 6-3.  Fourth-seeded Brandon Sihaphong topped Matteo Martinez 6-1, 6-0.

- The West Haven boys tennis team fell to 4-6 with a 5-2 loss against Hamden at West Haven Tuesday afternoon. Hamden improved to 10-0.
In singles action, Hamden’s Brian Oppenheim defeated Punar Garani 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, Quinn Northrup topped West Haven’s second seed Miguel Torres 6-0, 6-0, third-seeded Nolan Jermain defeated Benjamin Sager 6-2, 6-3, and fourth-seeded Josh Alexander of Hamden topped Brandon Sihaphong 6-3, 6-2.
