Law nips Westies
WH falls 97-86

 Despite posting victories in seven events, the West Haven girls swim team fell to Jonathan Law 97-86 Tuesday afternoon. 

The Westies won the 200 medley relay in 2 minutes, 9.24 seconds with a team of Anya Celmer, Mary Luz Heidtmann, Adrianna Accioly and Jillian Doherty. 

Celmer won the 50 freestyle in 27.23 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 1:09.93. Accioly won the 100 butterfly in 1:13.25, and Heidtmann was victorious in the 100 breaststroke in 1:20.48. Nicole Gaston won the 100 freestyle in 1:05.63. 

The 400 freestyle relay team of Doherty, Gaston, Accioly, and Heidtmann won in 4:32.98. 


Hamden tops WH
Westies fall 95-81

 - The West Haven girls swim team fell to Hamden Friday afternoon 95-81. 

Anya Celmer had a big day as she was part of three victories. Celmer won the 100 backstroke in 1:09.22 and the 100 freestyle in 58.60 seconds.

Mary Luz Heidtmann won the 200 IM in 2 minutes, 31.97 seconds, and Adrianna Accioly won the 100 fly in 1:13.55.

The 200 free relay team of Celmer, Nicole Gaston, Accioly, and Heidtmann won in 2:92.96, while the 400 free relay team of McKenna Driver, Gaston, Accioly and Jillian Doherty won in 4:38.23. 


Westies post win over East Haven
Westies fall to Tigers 3-0

 The West Haven girls swim team got in the win column with a 97-73 victory over East Haven/Wilbur Cross Tuesday afternoon. The Westies posted seven victories on the day, with Mary Luz Heidtmann part of three of those victories.

Heidtmann won the 100 breaststroke in 1 minute, 19.86 seconds, and the 200 IM in 2:31.84. Heidtmann was also part of the victorious 200 free relay team which also consisted of junior Jillian Doherty, freshman McKenna Driver and sophomore Anya Celmer in 2:00.45.

Celmer also won the 200 freestyle in 2:15.70, and Doherty was victorious in the 100 backstroke in 1:16.51.

Sophomore Adrianna Accioly won the 50 free in 29.81 seconds and sophomore Niciole Gaston took home the 100 freestyle in 1:09.84. 

New Season
Westies open season with 100-67 loss to Branford

 The West Haven girls swim team opened the 2016 season with a 100-67 loss to Branford Tuesday afternoon at West Haven High Pool.

The Westies were victorious in four events. Anya Celmer won the 50 yard freestyle in 27.65 seconds. 

Celmer also won the 100 yard backstroke in 1 minute, 9.73 seconds, while Mary Luz Heidtmann won the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:21.86.

The 400 yard freestyle relay team of Celmer, Nicole Gaston, Jillian Doherty, and Heidtmann were victorious in 4:28.71.   


Westies fall to Sacred Heart Academy
WH falls 93-79 in close meet

 The West Haven girls swim team fell to Sacred Heart Academy in a close meet Tuesday afternoon at West Haven High. The Westies battled, but came up just short in a 93-79 loss. 

West Haven placed first in five events, with sophomore Anya Celmer winning two individual races and swimming as part of the 400 free relay. 

Celmer won the 500 free in 27.46 seconds and was victorious in the 500 freestyle in 5 minutes, 53.80 seconds. 

Celmer was also part of the victorious 400 freestyle relay in 4:25.49. That team consisted of junior Jillian Doherty, Celmer, sophomore Nicole Gaston and senior Mary Luz Heidtmann, 

Freshman Morgan Falanga won in the 100 backstroke in 1:33.07, and Heidtmann won the 100 breaststroke in 1:21.65. 


Shelton tops Westies
Gaels too much in 102-63 victory over WH

- The West Haven girls swim team traveled to Shelton Friday afternoon looking to pick up a victory. Winning just three events, the Westies suffered a 102-63 defeat. 

Anya Celmer and Mary Luz Heidtmann posted victories in a pair of events in the loss. Each won an individual event and both were part of the victorious 400 free relay team. 

Celmer won the 50 free in 27.45 seconds, while Heidtmann won the 100 breaststroke in 1 minute, 20.55 seconds. 

The 400 free relay team of Celmer, Nicole Gaston, Jillian Doherty, and Heidtmann won in 4:40.59. 


Foran tops Westies
Lions prevail 95-80
